By the time you hear the siren, it's already too late

Faith wasn't really much for arts and crafts, but she'd found some sewing supplies and 'borrowed' a needle and thread. She'd seen the women do this a thousand times in murder rehab and the time and boredom had finally gotten to her. Well, that and the fact that she needed something new. She didn't do well with paradise ( Read more... )

Raistlin had become fascinated by the shelf. It was enchanted somehow. This was proof that magic did exist in some form, or had once existed in some form, on Tabula Rasa and this meant that it wasn't all hopeless. He had learned something from his failed experiment and he was ready to start trying to figure out whatever limits this place might have. He would be in control again, it would only take time.

He almost didn't notice the woman sitting at the table as he made his way to the bookshelf it was only after he picked a book and was heading to sit down in one of the chairs that he glanced her way. "What are you doing?" His tone may have been slightly incredulous, but then it was a lot of the time.

Faith raised her eyes, but not her head. Her stare could have cut right through him, then she returned her attention to the needle.

"Making a tat needle," she replied, too busy to care about lying.

Raistlin may or may not have been impressed by her stare. If he was it didn't show on his face.

"A tat needle?" It annoyed him that he had to ask, because he had once been used to knowing so much more than everyone else around him. Fizban probably would have found this good for him, some humility. He found it annoying and painful.

Faith sighed and set the pencil-needle down and twisted so he could see her tattoo on her bicep.

"A tattoo needle. Where the hell are you from, yo?"

"Krynn." He said dryly as he looked very closely at the tattoo. Now it made a little more sense, though he didn't think that item was used much on Krynn. The wilder elves and the barbarians painted themselves but nothing that permanent. "Is there some meaning behind it?" It certainly looked like a symbol for something.

"Never heard of it," she answered dismissively. Faith took up her project once more and continued to wind. "Meaning? Tattoos don't mean shit, man. It's just some skin art."

It certainly had nothing to do with what happened to her in 1996.

That was if not a lie, then a misdirection and he wasn't falling for it. He wondered if he should press the matter but it wasn't important enough to at this point, though he did make a mental note. You never knew when things might be important.

"I'm not surprised. It's probable many people haven't. There doesn't seem any rhyme or reason to this place." He would do his best to remain suspicious, because he couldn't let his guard down.

"That's the fuckin' truth. It's God damned Happy Valley compared to where I grew up," she said dryly. "It's a sad fuckin' day when I'm the scariest thing around."

"You are? Really?" There wasn't a tone of disbelief in his voice, more one of interest. After all, there might come a day when it wouldn't be such a bad idea to know people who were dangerous. It was knowing what they would want and how to get them to do what he wanted that would take a lot more research.

Faith snorted. "Most days, yeah. Be hellabad when I run outta smokes."

Interesting. "I'm sure they have something in place should anything happen? There are so many people here I'm certain there are bound to be....misunderstandings?" It would be best to find all of this out now. While he had no agenda at this point someone else might and he wasn't about to sit back and let someone else think they were in control of him. This place was about enough without that, thank you.

Faith shrugged. "There's a jail cell. Ain't so bad, I guess. Why?"

He shook his head. "No reason. It's simply that when a large group of people get together there are often problems of one sort or another." He wasn't exactly used to thinking the best of people. It didn't work in his line of work you might say. There are a few that rose about what he thought of others, but they numbered very few.

"Other places, maybe. Here, everybody's fucking sunshine and puppies. I never saw so many damn weddings and babies. I'm trapped in Happily Ever After," she laughed bitterly.

"Do you really believe that everyone is as you put it 'fucking sunshine and puppies'? I find everyone can be dark without much reason actually." He shrugged. "But perhaps it is my pessimistic nature and this place will prove different." He couldn't quite buy it, but it would make things easier in the long run. He could be alone with his research.

Faith snorted softly and shook her head. "From what I've seen? Yeah. They're all about turning the cheek and fresh starts and shit. Everyone except that wizard who's my cellmate sometimes."
