The world was in such a rush to speed her by, Jane found, that time passed and it passed until the point that she was but thirty-eight weeks pregnant with child as of the next day and standing there with a hand upon her rounded (quite rounded) stomach, she was lost in the thoughts of what precisely was meant to happen.

For instance, she did not know where she was to have her child, nor who would be primary physician, though she had her heart set upon one doctor in particular.

And beyond that, she was becoming far more anxious with every passing day. For she was no longer sure of her own skills, though she dismissed such thoughts as silly, truly. It was simply that so many women had given birth weeks before, according to what she had been told, even earlier than Jane was at that very moment and oh! But the thought of delivering right at that second scared her to her very core, if only that she was terrified of the pain and the procedure and the lot of it.

Any moment now, she could go into confinement and have her child; any moment! It was incredibly terrifying to Jane and standing there in the rec room, she found that the panic had overwhelmed her so that she could not even dare move.

She was frozen in place.

[Yes, she's 38 weeks. No, she's not giving birth yet.]
