Emmy had discovered dancing.

It wasn't exactly dancing, more spinning in circles until she got dizzy and fell on her butt, or running around the chair that Lily was sitting on cheering. It wasn't that Lily was hiding, sitting there in the chair with her knees drawn up, watching as her little girl essentially lost her mind.

And even if she was ( Read more... )

"What did you feed her?" said Eddie, first staring at his daughter and then at his wife.

Lily looked up, her arms wrapped around her knees.

"She had a banana. I just think she woke up with the devil in her this morning."

"Maybe she's trying to celebrate, eh?" says Eddie, giving Lily a soft smile. "That's what I would be doing if I was her."

Lily gave Eddie a look. She should have known he wouldn't have forgotten. In twenty years, Eddie hadn't forgotten once.

"At least one of us is, eh?"

Debbie laughs cheerfully as she walks into the rec room, a mug of tea in one hand and a plate of lemon bars in the other. "Aren't you having fun!" she coos at the little girl, spinning around in a circle with her once, just for kicks, before sitting down at the table. "She yours?" she asks the woman.

"Yes, she is," said Lily, smiling despite herself and dragging herself more upright in the chair as Emmy did another circuit hollering and waving her arms like a bird. "I don't really know what's gotten into her this morning. She's not usually this out of her mind."

Debbie laughs under her breath as she watches the little girl run around madly. "Kids," she says lightly, shrugging her shoulders and taking a sip of tea. "It's their job to just surprise the fuck out of you. God, I wish I had that energy still."

If the curse word startled Lily then it didn't for long. She'd grown up around James Lennox, hadn't she, and done enough cursing of her own.

"Tell me about it," said Lily. "I delivered twins the other day and I still feel like I'm dead on my feet."

Gordon wandered into the rec-room carrying his latest relics of battle with the clothes chest. It included generic denim trousers, a deadhead tee-shirt, and a long, buckled black latex glove which, when worn, would encase his arm up to mid bicep. Unbeknown to him, it had probably lived a previous life in a very specific kind of pleasure house, probably with matching whips and thigh-highs. Gordon, however, held more more domestic, if not more commonplace intentions for it.

He paused in the doorway, his acquisitions draped over one arm. "The child has gone made," he intoned, striding over to the little girl and placing his palm on her forehead to stop her spinning. "It's alright, however. We'll make use of you as a curling girl yet!"

Lily just barely restrained herself from rolling her eyes. She had a feeling that it wouldn't get her anywhere anyway.

Instead, she took a deep breath and managed to smile almost sweetly.

"Hello, Gordon."

Gordon's eyes went a bit wider and he wheeled around.

"Ah-hah," he said, observing her. "There you are, my girl. A lovely, bright girl you've got," he went on, observing as she wheeled in a tight circle. There was a gentle thump as she fell to the ground.

"Took after her father, it seems. And not just for the curling."

"Now just you stop there, Gordon Cutter," said Lily, firmly. "Don't you dare say anything about my Eddie."

Lily had always been rather fond of Gordon. Which didn't mean that she couldn't be sharp.
