Remember, remember...a bit too well, perhaps

Evey hated days like today.  They'd start out normal and fine, with a sunny day and nothing much going on, and then they'd unexpectedly crash into fiery bits.

Usually the crashing into bits part involved some wild animal feasting on her roses and Rollo shaking salty fishy muddy water all over her and then the clothesbox giving her only dirty ( Read more... )

Padme shifted Sola higher on her hip, the bag over her shoulder. They'd been out on the beach and both mother and daughter had ended up napping a bit later then expected. She hesitated when she saw Evie just... Sitting, but-

"Evie? Are you alright?" Sola babbled meaningless sounds, and Padme ignored them, the concern much more important then her daughter's quest to pull on her hair.

Evey had calmed a bit while she sat under the tree. She'd lost the Fingermen somewhere, she thought, at least for now, though she didn't have any illusions about whether she'd lost them permanently.

She managed a semblance of a smile for Padme and Sola, "Um, yes, I-I think so, thank you."

That was another concern. What if the Fingermen approached Padme, thinking she was Evey?

Padme thought for a moment. There was something that had the other woman on edge-

"Would you come with me? Into the Compound?" She thought for a moment. "We could get some food?"

"Alright," Evey agreed. Given the choice between an outside that had Fingermen and an inside that did not, she would take inside, especially if it got Padme and Sola inside as well.

She got up and surreptitiously looked around. No black uniforms anywhere, just green.

Padme nodded, and started moving to the Compound. She didn't know what'd spooked Evey, but at the least she'd be able to take care of her.

"How've you been, Evey? You're looking better."

"I'm well, thank you," she replied politely but mostly truthfully.

"I'm involved in the theatre productions. They're great fun. How are you?"

Sola seemed to grow every time Evey saw her, honestly. It was amazing how tiny she'd been compared to her present size.

Padme was happy to hear it, and shifted Sola to her hip to get the door. "I'm doing well- I'm working on figuring out the laws and governments when people are from, to see what might be best about moving forward." She half-smiled at that.

"I've never actually been to see any of the plays- I was thinking about it, especially now that Sola's less likely to get heat-sick."

"You ought to," Evey encouraged her as she rushed forward and held the door for Padme and Sola . "They're really very good, especially considering the fact that most of us haven't really acted before."

She left the bit about the laws alone. She generally did.

"I will, I think. I was also worried about her crying, but I think I can keep her occupied." Padme smiled. "Thank you," she said as she scooted them through the door, before moving to the kitchen.

"She might like the action, too," Evey pointed out as they walked to the kitchen. "There's so much happening on stage most of the time, especially since Mr. Tennant has chosen comedies so far."

"If they were tragedies, it might be different, but perhaps he feels we've got enough tragedies here."

Padme nodded. "I don't know if she'd neccesarily understand yet." She moved to tug a banana from the fridge, so she could mash it up for Sola.

"She might not. That's alright, though, she's young," Evey chuckled, beeping Sola's nose, which made her scrunch her face up.

"How old is she now? I'm terrible at guessing ages."
