Late Night Reading

Jul 30, 2007 21:49

Remus likely should have been in his hut at this time of night, in bed with his wife, yet instead he was to be found in the rec room, sat on a couch with a cup of tea and a book. The shelf had decided, by its own unique reasoning, to give him Catch-22 that morning, and he was around halfway finished.

He'd spoken to Bill for a while that afternoon, knowing the man was still hurting after the disappearance of his youngest brother. To come from a family so large and to have to be on the island without any of them...Remus could only imagine how hard that would be. He didn't want to think of what he'd do if Tonks or Sirius or James were to disappear from the island.

He drained his cup and set it down before turning the page. Normally he would have been nearly through with the book by this point, as he was a rather fast reader, but his thoughts had been wandering as of late. He still could scarcely believe that he was going to be a father. He could not truly express how that made him feel; he was excited and worried and terrified all at once. Most of all, though, he was grateful for the fact that he and Tonks were to have this baby on the island, where he could be a proper father, the kind of father the baby deserved. He didn't want to think about how he might have reacted had they still been at home.

He didn't want to tell Tonks, as it really oughtn't have mattered, but he was hoping for a boy.

[Old and new welcome! He *is* canon punctured, but he has NOT read DH and I don't want him finding out about it just yet; plz to not be telling him. ;) Slowtime/late tags welcome.]
