"Gee, Jayne, I didn't know you were a big hero too," said Yuffie, who'd snuck up behind him with typical ninja stealth. "Nice statue. Really flattering. What'd you do to earn it?"

"Uh..." Jayne looked over at Yuffie. "Uh, I dropped a bunch o' money on some folks, and I guess they was grateful 'bout it." OK, so he'd jettisoned the money to save his own skin, and he'd already jettisoned his partner, but he didn't really need to go into that. "Dunno how the statue got here, though," he added, his brow furrowing.

"Yeah, well, I dunno how I got a chocobo either. Things happen," Yuffie said, and then promptly hopped up and began to climb the statue so she could sit on its shoulders. "I think my thing is better, though."

"Uh, yeah, I think I'd rather have a giant chicken myself," Jayne said. Despite his confusion and growing annoyance, the sight of Yuffie sitting on the statue's shoulders made him grin a little. "Dunno what I'm gonna do with th' damn thing. I sure as hell don't wanna keep it."

"Huh. Really? Well, what can you really do with a statue? Put it somewhere you don't have to see it? We could sink it in the ocean. We could transplant it with the dinosaurs."

Yuffie rested her elbows thoughtfully on statue-Jayne's head.

"I wouldn't mind sinkin' it in the ocean, 'cept it'd be a bitch to carry all th' way to th' beach." A sudden lightbulb went on in Jayne's head. "You think your giant chicken could carry it?"

"Yeah, if we hooked it up on something. How heavy is the bastard?" Yuffie wanted to know. Chocobos were strong creatures, but she didn't wanna break hers.

"Dunno, it's prob'ly pretty heavy." Jayne pondered for a minute, then said, "Hey, maybe I could just blow th' damn thing up. It'd make a mighty nice explosion." The fact that flying rock shrapnel could potentially cause damage to life and limb didn't really occur to him.

"Yeah, but you gotta do that in a clear area too," Yuffie pointed out. "I like to explode things, but I did it for somewhere between a hobby and a living for a while, and you gotta at least be safe."

[mr_vera]

"Yeah, I guess so. Maybe haul it off over there." Jayne pointed to a clearing a few hundred yards away from the compound. "Hang on, I'm gonna go back to th' ship and get me a grenade. I'll be right back."

"You're gonna waste a whole grenade on it?" Yuffie asked skeptically. "Is it a symbolism thing or something?" Old guys liked symbolism. Vincent sure did.

"I dunno, you got a better idea for makin' it blow up?" Jayne asked. "Dunno if it's symbolic, but if I'm gonna get rid o' somethin', I might as well have fun doin' it."

"We could make something," said Yuffie. "When Midgar got destroyed, I helped out with blowing stuff up and taking it apart and building new stuff. I'm pretty good."

"Yeah?" Jayne said with interest. He was liking this gal more and more. Maybe he oughta make her his sidekick or something. If folks were determined to call him a hero, then he oughta have a sidekick. "Heard you c'n make pretty good explosives with fertilizer."

"Yeah, if you've got a lot of it to spare," said Yuffie. "Nah, I think all we need is a couple of bottles, some rags, matches... and something like booze."

"Hell, if I had booze, I'd be drinkin' it, not usin' it t' blow stuff up. Maybe they got some gasoline somewhere in th' compound. You think cookin' oil would do? That burns pretty good." Jayne was starting to enjoy this.
