There's something about airplanes, Bee thought, as she peered out her tiny window at the world of pillowed clouds beneath the plane.  When you took a trip on a plane, you started in one place, complete with all its sights and sounds and smells, and then you got onto the plane, and in no time at all you were in an entirely new world - a world of ( Read more... )

It's about time that Tim stops being surprised by anything he sees, he knows that. After that weekend where most everyone turned into kids and that weekend of the fog and people in comas and the fact that there are people who look like Drew Barrymore and Captain Kirk and Han Solo all wandering around, there shouldn't be much that surprises him anymore.

However, watching someone just kind of appear out of thin air is a new one.

His brows furrow as he wanders closer and he can tell right away that she's confused by her surroundings and his frown deepens a little. Concerned.

"You alright?" he asks as he gets closer and it's only then that he notices that she's another one of those people who looks like someone else. An actress, only he can't remember her name. Something Danes.

Bee started a bit when she heard the voice, but quickly regained her composure. The boy who spoke was large, football player large, and kind of cute, even with the frown of concern across his brow.

"I'm okay, I guess, just..." She paused, looked around her, and then back at him, trying to laugh a little. "Where the hell am I?"

"Good question," Tim replies and it sounds kind of gruff, but there's a small lilt of his smile curving his lips and his eyes are soft.

That's about the best answer he can give, too and he almost smiles apologetically. "Name's Tim," he tells her since that he knows at least. "And you're new."

Tim's also always been good at stating the obvious.

At his response she felt serious uncertainty begin to weigh in her stomach. His little smile eased it just a little bit.

"Hey, Tim. I'm Bridget." She smiled at him, and it was the slightest bit forced, but who could blame her, under present circumstances? "To what, exactly, am I new?"

"Uhm..." he says, raising his head and squinting out across the beach before raising one arm in presentation. "Here," he says and glances down at her again, still smiling just a little. "You're on an island."

It's probably not the best introduction ever, but he's never been very good at explaining anything unless it's somehow related to football and even then it's sketchy.

Bee frowned at his rather unsatisfactory explanation. "Can you be a little more specific? What island?" Worried that she sounded mean, she was quick to give him another smile.

"Yeah, no one knows," Tim replies and then takes another step forward, holding out his hand to help her up to her feet. "I think some people around here call it Tabula Rasa, but I'm pretty sure you won't find it on a map or nothin'."

Bee took his hand and let him pull her up. "So no one knows where it is? It's not on maps?"

She feels ridiculous even as she says it, but even so, she asks, "What, like the Bermuda Triangle or something?"

"Guess so," Tim says with a shrug, letting go of her hand once she's on her feet and letting himself take a quick look at her. Can't hurt. Tyra can't get mad at him just for looking. "Somethin' like that anyways."

He quirks a smile then, trying his best to make her relax a little because he knows how unnerving it can be. "Where you from?"

Bee feelt his eyes on her, and in any other situation she would probably have flirted with him, but her distress got the better of her.

She tried to shake it off when he asked about her. She smiled a little at him. "Bethesda, just outisde DC. What about you?"

Tim has no idea where that is and only a vague notion of where DC is. East coast, he thinks, but he can't really remember.

"Texas," he says and there's a certain pride in the word, something he knows he'll probably never really be able to shake. "Dillon. Small town, I'm sure you've never heard of it."

Bee grinned. "You're right, I've never heard of it." Some part of her had always loved small towns. Maybe it was her summers spent in Alabama with her Grandmother that did it.

"I've never been to Texas. Did you like it there?"

Tim's smile comes easier then, even if thinking about Dillon now is a little bittersweet.

"Yeah," he says, ducking his head slightly so that his hair falls in front of his eyes. "It's home, you know? You like DC?"

When she thought of DC, a pang of what must have been homesickness ran through her chest. "It's weird," she admits, "I never really thought of it completely as home. I always wanted to be somewhere else."

But now, in this completely unfamiliar place, unable to get back, she found herself missing Bethesda more than she would be willing to say.

"Well," Tim says with a sideways nod of his head and a wry sort of smile, "here ya go. Someplace else."

And he tries not to think about how often he's heard Tyra say that before. Anyplace but Dillon. He kinda wonders if she feels the same way now.

"Yeah," agreed Bee, pulling her knees up and hugging them to her chest. "Be careful what you wish for, I guess." She gives him a thin smile.

"So, how long have you been here?"
