It had been a very trying few days in this place. Marian had slept for much of it, her body needing the rest both to remove the rest of the hemlock, and to help heal her wound

Archie had simply been wandering through the compound in need of a quiet corner in which to read Throne of Jade which was the sequel to His Majesty's Dragon which he had finished about a week or so ago. The bloody bookshelf had been holding out on him, but that hardly mattered. He noted the woman and her study of the various appliances in the clinic, recognizing and understanding what that meant because when he had arrived on the island, none of the strange contraptions had made much sense.
He cleared his throat, anxious to have her notice him because it would have been rude to continue observing her silently. And certainly Archie had no desire to be rude to a lady. "Hullo."
"Hello," Marian responded, looking up from her inspection of the.. Of the something or other, smiling. She was glad to see someone in the clinic, the boredom in this strange place could be overwhelming at times.

"Two days, perhaps three? I have slept a great deal, and it is hard to keep track of time inside like this." His suggestion was a good one, and Marian sat in a nearby chair, again wondering at the construction and make of it. "This lighting makes it difficult to keep track of day and night."
She had started to wonder how it was done, she had time, and thinking of home and of those she was without was something she tried not to do. "This place, this island, is it all this strange?"
He hesitated and then slowly nodded his head. "It isn't a horrid place," he assured her with a small smile. "Overwhelming though. It took me a considerable amount of time to come to terms with all the gadgets and gizmos."
"Some of it does seem wondrous, yes." Marian sighed heavily, "I do not like having left Robin and the others. The Sheriff and Guy will make it difficult for them, and my father due to the disappearance."
He cleared his throat, anxious to have her notice him because it would have been rude to continue observing her silently. And certainly Archie had no desire to be rude to a lady. "Hullo."

"Perhaps you ought to sit," he suggested gently. "Have you been here long?"
