It had been a very trying few days in this place. Marian had slept for much of it, her body needing the rest both to remove the rest of the hemlock, and to help heal her wound

Gus walked into the clinic with Hamlet on his heels. His head was throbbing, the bruises across his nose and under his eye turned interesting shades of purple and yellow, and he thought he might try and scrounge up another couple of pain pills...not that he'd ever admit that to Mayko.
He stood in the clinic, looking around for someone who looked like a Doctor and not finding anyone.
Hamlet trundled over to the occupied bed, snuffling.
"Hamlet..." said Gus, his tone a definate warning. "The lady's sick enough without you being a nusiance."
"He thinks he's people." Gus shook his head. "Strange creature."
Gus nodded.
"Pretty common, I suppose. Though I could have got an injury like this back home. See more dinosaur bites than we did back in Canada, that's for sure."
Her father had had a dog when she was younger that was allowed much greatly leeway then any of the other hunting dogs. The affection he had held for it had also been great. Marian tried to not let the thoughts of her father get her down, and instead, tried to puzzle out what this man had just said.
"Dinosaurs? Are they a creature?" She had also never heard of Canada. It might be near the Austra-place that the Doctor who had treated her hailed from. "I am sorry, this place seems very strange, and I have forgotten my manners. I am Marian."
"Thank you. It is good to meet you then Gus." Marian smiled and nodded slightly in greeting.
"Large lizards. They bite and they are a problem here?" Marian was picturing something smaller then the pig, with sharp teeth. "They were not as great a problem where you were from, before this place?"
"If they were a menace, perhaps it is good they died out. Though less fortunate they are still here if they cause injury."
Marian shifted in the bed. Her wound still ached if she stayed too long in one position, another sign that she was not as well as she hoped. "Have you been here long, in this place?"
"Don't be ridiculous. There is nothing across the ocean, other than the edge of the world." He was having her on, and she would not stand for it. "Do not think that because I am currently an invalid I have a feeble mind as well. You will find yourself surprised."

"Please. I am much better." She looked at him with concern, "You are injured. Do you need help?"

He raised his eyebrows.
"This? Oh, no...It's broken but it's healing. I'm fine, honestly. You look in a much worse way than me."

Referring to the pig as 'he' even seemed odd.
"Injuries seem common here." Though she had not gained hers here, but at home. "It is nothing. Only a knife wound. It is healing."
She would not say how close she had come to dying.

He perched in a chair beside the bed.
"Dinosaurs are like...big lizards."

He rolled one shoulder in a shrug.
"They live on the other side of the island. We mostly stay out of each others way."
