Stacy would have given anything - literally, anything she could think of - for a law text. There had been a time when she had hated the sight of the huge, heavy volumes and the constant, straight lines of print that seemed they'd never come to any sort of end. She'd labored for hours to wrap her mind around legal jargon and terminology, and had ( Read more... )

Chase found Stacy reading and since he was also in the midst of it, it seemed like it was a day for it. "Your book looks almost as boring as mine," he said, with a bit of a smile. "And here I thought that wasn't possible."

[ooc: Hey! When you also get a moment, email me. There's some living situation stuff we should talk about with some changes having happened over the last two months and all.]

Stacy looked up, giving him a smile and a raise of an eyebrow in turn. "It might not be," she said. "It looks like you're actually learning something. What are you reading today?"

She didn't mind the company and pulled her legs to the side to make room.

Chase flipped the book over to check the cover. "Uh, apparently, a history of intimacy issues and psychiatric causes behind them." He sat down, flipping to chapter five. "I'm trying to be on the psych. staff," he explained.

Stacy's mouth moved into a surprised smile. "Really? When did you start that?" she asked, interest coloring her face. She hadn't heard much about what anyone from Princeton had been doing lately, but she was happy to catch up.

"Uh..." Chase had to struggle to think. "Right before the Doctor and I moved in, so, early May is when I started?" His head was just one big sponge at that point for information.

Stacy smiled. "I'm sure you can handle it," she said. There was no reason to doubt Chase's capabilities, she'd seen them when he reasoned his way out of suspension of his medical license. Then again, she didn't know if he knew about that so she stayed quiet. "It seems like a lot to take in, though."

"It is," he admitted. "I mean, it's basically all I do anymore. I wake up, I study. I eat while I study. I go to bed, I study. I have a date, I study."

"Just don't start blending studying and dates together," Stacy advised. "You had plenty of that in medical school, I'm sure. Take time out and have some fun with that boyfriend of yours." She was teasing him a little, sure, but her smile was warm.

Chase gave a laugh at that. "I didn't really date in med school. I was trying to work through and live up to my Dad's name." And after that, he grinned slightly. "Besides, I sort of like the dates I have that bled with studying. I never forget the terms, then."

Stacy burst into laughter, leaning back so far that her back met the sofa. "That never worked for law," she said, "but if it works then definitely keep it up. You're still enjoying it, then?"

He nodded, giving a bit of a grin. "It gives me something to do. An actual job. The Doctor teaches, but I don't really like kids in general so much as kids on a singular basis?" he offered. He loved to talk with kids in a one-on-one capacity.

Stacy smiled. "I didn't deal too well with kids myself," she admitted. "That's probably why I never had one. But I agree, it seems like it would be more fun to talk with a child one-on-one. There's no one for them to worry about impressing there, and they can be more open."

"I'm sort of trapped by biology now," he admitted with a bit of a snort. "Even though I want one, little bit without the necessary bits."
