There were a lot of things that Maureen missed about New York. She missed clubs, and she missed street corner musicians, and she missed her shitty apartment, and she missed being able to put on something tight and go out and pick up a hot guy or a hot girl and take them home. She missed a city of millions of people ( Read more... )

Someone proved to be Jack. He smiled at her...how could he not? She was Maureen.

The music was infectious and he held his hands out to get her to bring that sexy ass shaking a little closer.

"How's tricks, gorgeous?"

Maureen lit up when she saw him, immediately jumping down from the couch and sliding her arms around his neck. "Better now! You come to dance with me?"

"I could dance," he said, arms sliding around her waist as he started to move.

Around that time, the song ended and "Walk Like An Egyptian" came on instead. Maureen let out a delighted squeal and got really into it - by the time it got to the sultry, "walk like an Egyptiaaaaaaan...." she turned so that her back was to him and slowly lowered her body, one arm raised to drag her fingertips down the side of his face.

House was actually looking for Jack, though had been told by someone in the kitchen that he'd just missed him. He popped his head into the rec room, and no Jack, but did see Maureen sitting on the couch looking positively deflated. "Hungry Like the Wolf" was playing on the jukebox.

He hesitated, then said, "Hey, seen Jack?"

Maureen looked up at him, and upon seeing who it was, scowled.

"Have I ever," she muttered.

House frowned at that.

"... what's that supposed to mean?"

"I mean..." Maureen pulled herself to her feet and marched over to House. "I mean your boyfriend is a total cocktease. He comes in here, gets me all worked up, and then goes home to you. And what about me? Here I am about to cream my panties and I am short one dick."

Tony grinned at the woman on the couch. Man, one thing the island didn't lack for was attractive women. Attractive taken women, it seemed, but hey, what could you do? It never hurt to talk to them. After all, he was sorta taken himself, wasn't he?

Thinking of that made him cringe inwardly. He liked Lisa, alot, but...

Talking to a gorgeous brunette seemed about the order of the day. "I've been told all my lines are corny, so I'll try Hi, I'm Tony."

Maureen looked up at him. New guy. Cute guy. Maybe things were looking up. She pulled herself to her feet and walked up to him. "I'm Maureen," she said, offering her hand smoothly. "And it's your lucky day because you don't need lines with me."

"Really?" He stepped closer to her as he gripped her hand. "I think I like lucky days then."

Maureen smiled at him. "What, you don't think it's possible that there was some girl sitting on a couch, really horny, just waiting for some cute guy to walk in and try a lame line on her?"

And as anyone who had shared a musical life with her, Roger walked in. He knew the voice, knew the song, and she probably knew it would be met with an eyeroll.

"Are you trying to get people to lump us into a category? The Broadway Wierdos?"

Maureen stuck her tongue out at him. "I'm a performer," she said. "You're just jealous."

Roger snorted and slung an arm around her.

"I'm a performer. I'm Roger motherfucking Davis." He flashed an electric smile, but it was fairly obvious that he wasn't feeling it.

Not being the most emotionally perceptive person, Maureen just grinned at him and said, "Wanna dance?"

Oh, great, strange woman moping on the couch.

Mostly because it made people uncomfortable when she hauled the bigass weapon around, Yuffie set the Conformer down just inside the doorway. She thought about trying to sneak over to the bookshelf, her target, but realized it would not do for the princess of Wutai and the Planet's greatest ninja to be caught sneaking because some chick looked like she needed attention.

So she headed over, vaguely trying to recall how Aerith and Tifa did it, just in case.

Maureen had at least ah... calmed down a bit, before she looked up and saw the cute Asian girl heading for the bookcase. "Got a boyfriend?" she asked conversationally.

That made Yuffie laugh. "Yeah, right," she said. "Millions of 'em."

She dropped into a crouch to read the books on the lowest shelf, tilting her head. "Nope. Boys take up valuable time you could be doing other things. Maybe if they could just sit there quietly and look pretty."

Maureen snorted. "That's fine for a while, but eventually you're going to want them for more than that. Or at least - " She grinned. "Another girl."
