Duo had been making frequent stops back at the bookshelf, looking for more of his television show. All in all, the idea idea that he was, in some world, animated was pretty weird. he guessed it made sense. Giant robots, awesome main character, re: him. But it seemed awfully politically complicated, so far, to be a kids show, so he didn't know what that was about. He pulled a reel with 'Gundam' written on it down from the shelf and set it up, then threw himself lightly down on the couch to watch.
It was jarring to see the inside of a Sweeper's vessel come up and to hear his own voice- years younger, louder and impetuous, echoing off the space ship's hull-
"Lemme go! God dammit, lemme the hell go-" and then Professor G's nasal, rough tone breaking in.
"Let him go. A stow away, huh?" Oh, fuck, that was creepy. Duo didn't remember the guys nose being that big. Yeah, he remembered getting found. It had kind of busted the prof's balls, and rightfully the hell so. That security system had been a bitch to get past, but he'd managed it.
He was blatantly surprised when the flashback happened. The screen came up showing 'summer' on L2. This mean it looked more parched of water and bleached, washed out by false sunlight then usual. It also looked bad. Run down like when he was a kid, when the Federation wasn't just passively leeching off the colony but was actively ruining it at their discretion.
His heart almost stopped when the action started. Yeah, that was him. Definitely him and definitely no more than 7 years old.
A.C. 188, the caption said. Ten years ago, almost exactly.
"Oh, shit," Duo said quietly, paralyzed, unable to turn it off. Sure it was animated but it was still definitely, definitely him.
