Monday dinner

May 28, 2007 16:41

For dinner this evening, Susan put together a large shrimp and pasta salad. She sauteed the shrimp in oil, garlic, a tiny bit of peppers and a little more of onions, and tossed it with the pasta and a squeeze of lemon juice. She didn't use any sort of recipe this time, which made her a bit nervous. It was the first thing she had made simply by putting together ingredients that seemed to work, and while it smelled delicious, she couldn't really be sure it was a success unless people enjoyed it.

There was also roasted corn, still on the cob, salted up and served with fresh-churned butter, as well as strawberry shortcake for dessert. Susan made pitchers of tart, sweet lemonade to drink, and there was some cow's milk today as well. Finally, she brewed tea and coffee and waited for people to trickle in to dinner. The kitchen felt a bit lonely just then, as Shadow had not accompanied her to the compound, choosing instead to run off and hunt (presumably) with Ghost, but Susan was certain the kitchen would be full soon enough.
