There was never anyone using the stage early in the mornings. River had made sure of that before she ventured there, dressed in the dance clothes she had slowly collected from the clothes box. The final item had been a pair of proper shoes, and the box had finally been forthcoming a few days before. It had taken River a bit of time before she was really ready to start, but she didn't want to put it off any longer.
She started off slowly, stretching and going through the positions, the voice of her first dance teacher in her head familiar and keeping her on track. When the music in her head took over, she let it, and danced and glided and leapt across the stage as she hadn't in a very long time.
It was like flying, and she forgot everything that troubled her. There wasn't any reason in the 'verse for her to have been afraid of dancing, when she loved it this much. The Alliance wasn't here, and even if they did show up, River wouldn't let them take this from her again. The dance was her own, and she wasn't going to let it be used by anyone else ever again.
When the dance was over, she gave a tiny bow toward her dog, the only audience she was aware of, lying on the edge of the stage with his nose on his paws, and went back to the stretching and careful positioning she had started with. She knew she would be sore later, but it was more than worth it.
[I'm sure she is not alone as she thinks she is. Come say hello to the dancing girl.]
