Many happy returns!

There were certain things Sybil had no experience in planning, and children’s birthday parties were one of them. Sam’s first birthday had been mostly an opportunity for most of the city’s society to drop by and bring presents, and her husband had only remained on the premises for the sake of their son and had avoided everyone else like the Klatchian flu. Still, she had an idea of how things should look and certainly knew what kind of things kept Young Sam interested , at this juncture, and the clearing looked truly delightful- and due in no small part to the aid and enthusiasm of Jane Redman, and the masterful postmastering skills of Mr. Moist von Lipwig. There were streamers, vines woven with flowers (the aesthetic of which was lost on her son but the dangly bits of which were certainly not); a beautiful- and bountiful- spread with perhaps more sweets than would otherwise have been present but a full dinner, as well; a man in a gold suit and one in blue who had been kind enough to volunteer to perform magic tricks; musicians; and, much to Sybil’s scientific enjoyment and mild distraction, there were unicorns, as well.

She had cleaned the blue dress she’d arrived in until it looked new in that specific way the wealthy owned ‘new‘ clothes, and had made Sam brush up his armor, and had actually found something quite serviceable in the box of strange clothing downstairs for Young Sam. They were tiny trousers and shirt with a collar, but no buttons, which she thought was rather clever. She held him as they greeted guests and he played a very good host, though this was under the express understanding that he was allowed as many sweets as he wanted and got a break from playing party at 6 o’clock to go sit to the side of the party with his father and be read to.

[There is post on Slated that should address any inquiries! There are grownup-drinks for grownups, yay, and music and unicorns and Spike Spiegel and Moist von Lipwig doing MAGIC TRICKS and music and fun things. STed through the weekend! Share and enjoy.]
