There really hasn't been much in the way of good things for Lionel lately; not with Otto disappearing and leaving him with a too-empty room. When he thinks about it maybe the good outweighs the bad, but it's easier to see what's missing than it is to realize how good you have something. Having to be the one to break the news to William hasn't done ( Read more... )

Daniel's engrossed in Rodney's star charts when he enters the kitchen. He gets to the coffee pot, notices there isn't fresh coffee, and sets up the machinery one-handed, notebook still in hand. Once it's set to brew, he sits at the counter, oblivious to anything or anyone that might be in the room.

Lionel watches Daniel after he comes into the kitchen without noticing Lionel with growing amusement. He doesn't think he's seen anyone move on autopilot the way Daniel does when he's engrossed in whatever he's reading. He waits for Daniel to settle at the counter before speaking up. "Hey, Daniel."

Daniel's head jerks up at the familiar voice. He laughs when he sees Lionel. "This is how many times, now, that I've completely missed the fact that you're in a room? Don't feel bad, though. I do it to everyone." He gives Lionel a bright smile. He's happy, really happy, and it shows. "How are you?"

"I'm good," Lionel says, mostly because it's hard not to be a bit cheered up, looking at Daniel. He wonders if the same look would be on Ianto's face if Lionel found him right now, and he doesn't think he'd be too far off the mark. "Do I at least get to know what I'm being ignored for?"

She watches him curiously for a while, having been living in the kitchen with her coffee for days now. "You look serious," she deduces. "It's a bad look for you. It involves wrinkling."

Lionel blinks up at Daisy, not really moving even when he gives her a shrug. He does smile, though. "I'm just trying to decide what to work on for now." He considers not saying anything, not really wanting to drag things out, but it's Daisy, and he figures it'll come up anyway. Most things do. "Did you know Otto? He worked on the Times, and looked like John Lennon."

She muses to herself, idly playing with a lock of her hair as she watches her manicured fingers go over the blonde locks again and again. "I noticed him," she concurs with a nod. "He had retina issues."

"Retina issues," Lionel repeats after Daisy. He knows what that means in what he's secretly started calling Daisy-speak, and it puts a more genuine smile on his face. "He was a vampire. I still don't know if he didn't like the sunshine or had bad eyes, though."

Jack's not sure why he wanders up behind Lionel and then messes up his hair to the best of his ability, he just does. Maybe because it's there and it looks too nice or maybe because he used to do it to his sister and now she's not here for him to do it to anymore, but now it's Lionel's turn. And Jack does a damn good job of messing it up.

If Lionel lets out a surprised noise that sounds way too much like a squeal, he's never going to own up to it. Ducking his head doesn't really work, and even if he can't see him Lionel knows Jack is the only one who'd do that.

He reaches up over his head, batting Jack's hand away before turning around in his seat to face him. Lionel doesn't exactly pout as he runs a hand over his hair, trying to smooth it out, but it's a near thing. "Hi to you too."

"It's still sticking up there," Jack points out cheerfully, smiling at Lionel like he's just trying to help, then reaches out to smooth down the hair that's sticking up. Mostly he just ends up making more of a mess of it.

There's no reason for him to be in such a good mood, but he is anyway and he figures Lionel needs to stop pouting over whatever it is he's pouting over this time. "We should do something," he decides.

"Like what?" Lionel resigns himself to Jack's sudden need to do his hair, and considers it as he looks down at the pile of paper on the table in front of him. He's glad for Jack's interruption, mostly because if they do end up just running lines, at least he'll have someone to do it with.

Ianto's life had been made significantly easier by the fact that Jack had been all but ordered to stop working on Stu's building project. Since they'd really been the only ones working on it, it gave Ianto his days back and left an empty space to fill with activity. Currently, he was planning on filling that empty space with some reading, though he hadn't figured out what yet.

Walking into the kitchen, Ianto noticed Lionel immediately and smiled despite the other man's distraction. "Lionel," he greeted. "How are you?" he asked, moving to the kitchen counter and examining the coffee pot. Sniffing at it, he dumped the liquid into the sink and rinsed it out, planning on making a new batch.

"Bored," Lionel answers absently, and pokes at the nearest thing on the table, which turns out to be Much Ado flipped open to Borachio's longest speech. "Maybe starting to freak out about the play. But mostly bored."

"The dangers of life on an island," Ianto sighed, preparing a fresh batch of coffee.

"You got... Borachio, didn't you?" he asked as he set the coffee to brew and replaced the container of coffee grinds. "Does he have a great many lines for you to memorize?"

Lionel nods, considering trying to put into words how it's not the number of lines that's getting to him at the moment, but he can't exactly do it. "Not too many, actually. He does have one long speech where he details his plot, but that's really it."

"If you put one on your head, maybe you'll learn by osmosis," Kate suggests, walking slowly into the kitchen. Her leg is acting up a little but she really doesn't feel like retrieving the splint. Besides, it probably needs to be strained a little. For purposes of strengthening or something.

Lionel gives Kate a wry smile in reply, though it turns a bit more genuine when he sees her up and about without the splint. Even if he's pretty sure she shouldn't have taken it off yet. "If that works, at this rate I might just try it."

"I think it's an excellent idea," Kate says, lowering herself into a chair with a grin. "So, are we going with rogue traitor or the guy who has the hots for my boyfriend?" she asks, poking at the plays.

"Hey," Lionel says, tugging the radio play toward him defensively, "it's completely the other way around." Sort of. Most of the time Lionel's not really sure, and Daisy isn't exactly forthcoming about future scripts.
