Nancy had woken up planning on going swimming, but in the end the ancient Mayan texts she'd brought with her when she stumbled onto the island had won out over fun in the sun. No real surprise there. She had a stack of books beside her, all claiming to be the 'best' in transcribing glyphs, and two open nearby that she was still searching through, tapping her pen against her chin thoughtfully as she flipped through their pages.
There certainly were a lot of things to factor in when it came to translating Mayan glyphs!
It was getting late now though, and Nancy's hand was beginning to cramp up. Sighing, she knew it was time to move on to something else, before her poor hand simply fell off and made a run for it. Carefully she stacked the books back up and slid the ancient texts back into her bag, snagging two of the better books as well, just in case the shelf wasn't so helpful the next time around. After all, the last time she'd gone looking for textbooks, all it had given here were books about the art of bartending for some strange reason.
As she slid the last book back into place on the shelf, a title caught her eye. The Hardy Boys and The Tower Treasure, it read simply, and Nancy couldn't help herself as her curiosity took over and she slid the book free from its space and sat down with it. There, on the cover, was a crude drawing of Frank and Joe Hardy, hiding behind a tree with a menacing tower in the distance.
She didn't open it, not right away at least, for now it was simply enough to just look at the familiar faces.
"You two would know what to do if you were stuck here, wouldn't you?" she sighed, almost looking annoyed by the idea that perhaps this was a case she'd never crack on her own.
(Late tags and slowtime welcome.)
