Fish.Fish were key. Dean had to find enough bits and pieces of fish in the kitchen to make something gross and spread it between Sam's sheets, then put the rest of it under the bed. Looking over his shoulder, he squinted at the door, then went back to looking for fish heads and fish bones and fish scales - they were on a freaking island! All they ( Read more... )

Eden was only looking for a snack, slipping into the kitchen only to stop in the doorway, the only sign of her presence the sudden silence of her heels. She folded her arms, lounging against the doorframe and watching the man, her head tilted against the smooth wood. Things had quieted down over the last day or so. If she was careful, she didn't have to think about any of it - home or death or bullets aimed at Bennet, the fact that, as of tomorrow, she would be marking off the third week of her stay on Crazy Island. Random guys digging through the garbage were distracting enough for her tastes. "Are we out of leftovers?" she asked sweetly.

"Nah," Dean said, glancing up just long enough to notice a short brunette with a good figure standing in the doorway before going back to looking for fish guts. He wasn't finding any, though, and it occurred to him that he might have to trek down to the beach - or maybe find Eostre to ask where all the fish guts on the island when after they'd been separated from dinner. "Looking for some stuff to put in my brother's bed..."

"You're looking for garbage to put in your brother's bed," Eden echoed, just to be clear on that. Pushing off from the door, she took a few steps closer, hands swinging loosely at her sides. "What'd he do to earn that?" She grinned a little, coming to rest again beside a counter. Turned out this would probably be interesting after all.

"Lots of things," Dean said, shrugging a bit before walking toward the sink and washing his hands. He wasn't going to actually tell this girl about his brother being a girl... and him hitting on her. "He's had twenty-four years to do things, I figure putting some fish guts in his bed is the least I can do to pay him back..."

Eden turned against the counter, watching him with eyebrows raised. "So twenty-four years and you haven't paid him back yet?" she asked. "Man, you're slow." She'd never had anyone to play tricks on, growing up, couldn't remember even dreaming of it. That had been something the others did.

"Nah," Dean said, grinning as he dried his hands off and then leaned against the counter opposite her. "I just like to take my time, make sure I'm doing it right..." He could've said something about being the kind of guy who liked to make sure that, when he did something, he did it right the first go-round, that he was thorough, but he stopped himself.

"Twenty four years is a lot of waiting," Eden said wryly, crossing her arms and tilting her head to look up at him. This now, this was one of the reasons she wore heels all the time. Even so, he was making her feel short. "Such dedication. Now that's brotherly love."

"Yeah, well," Dean said, shrugging. "Sam's worth the dedication, even when he's a stupid little bitch..." Even when he makes me give up the last of the Lucky Charms. He didn't know where that thought had come from, but he let it slide away just as it'd snuck up on him. "But you caught me - I put Nair in his shampoo once... so really, it's like... thirteen years of waiting."

"Even so," Eden said, shaking her head and clapping her hands together. She flashed him a teasing smile as she pushed off to the counter. She was remembering the reason she'd come in in the first place, moving about in idle search of something. "So Sam's your brother. Who are you?" She glanced over at him from the open door of the pantry.

"Dean," he answered, giving her a smile before shrugging a bit and going ahead with, "Dean Winchester." Supernatural hunter extraordinare, at your service. Luckily, he managed to suppress that last part. He just laughed a little, though, at himself. "Who're you?"

"Eden." The fact that she didn't recognize his name didn't mean much of anything. For all the people she'd met on the island, she still didn't know anyone, not really. Either way, there were strawberries, so she found a bowl and collected some to wash. Fresh fruit had yet to get old. "Eden McCain," she finished, mimicking him. "And I haven't got any siblings on the island. Or off, that I know of. But if it's all playing tricks, maybe that's better for me."

"'s not all pranking," Dean said, giving Eden a smile. "There's ass-kicking in there, too... and food-stealing..." And protecting, because sometimes little brothers are stupid. But he didn't say that. "And then there's ganging up on other people together... there's plenty of fun stuff..." Of course, there was also tons of crap as well, but he figured it was no use knocking it, since she didn't have a sibling and wouldn't be able to commiserate.

"Like a built in tribe or something." Eden's voice was wry, but it wasn't like she was dismissing the idea. She liked the idea, the innate closeness of family, but it had only ever been an idea for her. "Strawberry?" She held the bowl out to him with another smile as she picked one up for herself with her free hand.

"Thanks," Dean said, taking a strawberry from the bowl and eating it in one bite, the green bit still held between his fingertips when he pulled it away. "'s good," he said, half the strawberry pressed into the side of his cheek as he chewed the rest of it. Once he'd swallowed it all, he looked around and shrugged. "Can't seem to get this prank worked out, though. Don't have any fig bits in this and I'm pretty freaking sure Eostre'd kill me if I used the fillets that're for dinner..."

Eden set the bowl down, thinking that over as she ate a strawberry. "There must be somewhere they throw them away," she said, "if they're not in here. I mean, they smell pretty nasty. Outside, maybe?" It made sense to her, anyway. She wouldn't've kept that indoors when she didn't need to. Then again, she'd never done much with fish that involved all the... bits and pieces. They just came as fillets at the store, and that was how she liked it.
