Fish.Fish were key. Dean had to find enough bits and pieces of fish in the kitchen to make something gross and spread it between Sam's sheets, then put the rest of it under the bed. Looking over his shoulder, he squinted at the door, then went back to looking for fish heads and fish bones and fish scales - they were on a freaking island! All they ( Read more... )

"Don't you dare," said Eostre, from her armchair in the corner. The bookshelf had decided to mollify her this morning with a fat book of American short stories that she was effectively hiding behind, but her mood from yesterday persisted. The Lady of the Dawn was in no mood to be argued with. She wasn't entirely sure what Dean was up to, but she did have enough experience of young boys (and idiot men) that she was sure it wasn't any good.

Dean froze where he stood and looked over, all innocence, as he said, "Hey, Eostre!" He gave her a wide smile and then glanced around the kitchen. "So - you wouldn't happen to know where I can find some fish parts, would you? Just the stuff you don't really do anything with, you know? The pieces you throw away?"

"Don't. You. Dare," said Eostre. "I don't know what you're up to. I don't care. But keep it out of my damn kitchen."

She turned a page of her book, tersely.

"I'm in no mood."

"I wouldn't do anything in the kitchen..." Dean said, his tone honestly sincere. "I just want to find some to take out of the kitchen..." There was no way he'd risk A) the preganant woman's anger or B) making the kitchen unusable. "I swear," he held his hands up.

"You won't do anything out of it either," said Eostre. "Whatever you're up to, it's undoubtedly unpleasant and you'll make life difficult for someone and I said no."

Dean actually, almost, very nearly pouted. His dad had never worried about that sort of thing. "It's my brother... can't I do something to him? Just a small something? It's not even like I'll be making him go bald again like I did that one time..."

Eostre put her book down in her lap and raised her eyebrow.

"How old are you?"

"Twenty-eight," Dean answered, not seeing anything at all odd with his request. Sam was just his brother after all. It wasn't like he was trying to put fish in a diplomat's bed or anything. "C'mon - can't you just tell me where the fish guts are?"

Eostre gave Dean a long look, her lips pursed.

"Are you trying to irritate me, or is it just how you woke up this morning?"

Sighing, feeling somewhat defeated, Dean's shoulders slumped a bit and he shrugged. Then he felt kind of guilty. Which wasn't something he was used to. "Sorry," he muttered, looking off to the side. "Can I get you something to eat or... something?"

Eostre arched an eyebrow.

"A drink would be nice. Thankyou. Something with lots of ice."

She almost felt guilty, he looked so dejected.

"Coming up," Dean said, looking in the fridge for something to drink and finding some juice. He got a glass and filled it with ice, then poured in some juice and carried it to Eostre where she was sitting. What was he supposed to say? She's already managed to get an apology out of him faster than his brother ever had. Maybe it was because she was blonde and pregnant. Pregnant blondes tended to make him twitchy. He hadn't quite figured it out yet.

Eostre took the glass from him, her book closed in her lap.

"Thankyou, sweetheart," she said, with a smile. "You're very helpful."

"Eh - I try," Dean said, not really sure what to do with himself now. No fish, no prank...
