After a day of being male, Abby was fully used to it again, especially the convenience of just finding a tree when he had to go.  He'd spent the morning with Nick, pranking the oddly absent Greg, and was feeling very mischievous and proud of himself.

It was a gorgeous day, despite the occasional screams.  Sunny but not too sunny, warm, a little ( Read more... )

Bran knows it's Abby. He absolutely remembers what Abby looks like as a boy. He peers down at her over the top of his sunglasses, his hat shading his face from the sun.

"Definitely needs a deeper moat. And a drawbridge."

"Yeah, but a drawbridge would be so hard to construct, or at least a working drawbridge would. You'd need pulleys and ropes and counterweights," she points out.

"You're picky," Bran says dryly, dropping to his knees near the castle. "Most of us can be satisfied with a bit of driftwood we can move up and down. So is it less surprising the second time?"

"Of course I'm picky. I'm a scientist," he sighs. "And yes, it is very much less surprising. It even happened about the same time. So hey, maybe I'll put it on my calendar."

"April Fool," Bran says with a grin. "It got Will, this time. Fortunately I learned the supportive boyfriend routine last year."

"Oh no! Poor Will!" he exclaims. "Does he look like anyone familiar? That's all we need, wrong-gendered clones walking around."

Bran's cheeks go a little pink under the shadows of his hat. "He looks like River Tam. Exactly, near as I can tell."

"Um. Wow," he replies. "That's uncanny. And weird. Poor you, too, then."

Bran shrugs. "It's all right. He's adjusting a little too well, actually, I'm kind of hoping he's not still thinking he wants to be a girl all the time. And River's gorgeous, it just makes me feel like I ought to ask her permission or something before I go kissing Will."

"No, I don't think he wants to be a girl. Wasn't that just because someone wouldn't really accept their sexuality? You've accepted yours, after all," he points out. "And as long as you don't kiss the actual River, you're probably okay. Her Captain would kick your ass."

"I know. But it still would be strange," Bran says with a shrug. "If I find her, I'll ask her. I suppose I won't worry about it if I don't, because I don't want Will to go thinking that I don't like him as much now."

"No, he's probably feeling fairly stupid. Greg's a girl too," she admits.

"Yeah?" Bran asks, curious. "How's that for you?"

"Weird. Really weird. He's cuter than me, which is totally unfair," he laughs ruefully.

Bran grins at her. "Well, I still think you're quite fit as a bloke."

"Why thank you, Powder. I'm so glad to have your approval," he replies impishly, although impish is harder in this body, which prefers languid.

"I pranked someone today." He's very smug about this fact, because it was just so fun.
