Crowley had grown weary of reading the books he'd gotten to take to Aziraphale in the clinic, so he sauntered into the rec room to do battle with the bookshelf. He had always believed that Good and Evil were just names of sides, but that was until he'd encountered the shelf and the jukebox. Jane was in search of him, that much she knew, and she paused to briefly catch Stuart's eye and shyly and lovingly wave in his direction before continuing onwards to find Jack. "Jack," she greeted, draping herself over the sofa as she peered at him. "You are just the man I was looking for."

"Jane," he said, his smile dazzling and entirely for her. "What can I do for you?"

She smiled warmly in return, shifting and lifting her skirts into her lap as she drew her vest about her torso. "Well," she remarked. "I have spoken to all but you. You are coming to Stuart's birthday ball this Sunday, yes?" she inquired hopefully, eyes bright.

"Of course," he laughed. "I missed one party...I won't let it happen again. Will you save me a dance?"

Jane nodded, quite happy as she peered at Stuart and leaned forward, as though confiding. "It is for Stuart's birthday, you see, so I do want all his dearest friends there and I do know the two of you are so close," she spoke thoughtfully. "I would gladly save you a dance!"

Her thoughts slowly came about to another question. "Jack," she remarked. "When is your birthday?"

Jack rested his hand on her shoulded and his smile grew wider. "Good, good. We'll do something slow so you won't get tired." Then his smile flickered only a fraction and he shrugged. "I honestly don't know, Jane. It never really mattered."

Her frown overcame her and she didn't like the sound of that at all. She shifted her vest and wrapped it tighter about herself. "That is simply not right," she spoke. "And I would not get tired," she added, in meek protest.

"It's the way it is," he replied. "I mean, I died and was brought back the day I arrived here...so, what? I guess the eighth of next month I'll be one," he laughed. How ridiculous. One.

With an utter serious nod, Jane committed the date to memory. "Then upon the eighth of next month, I shall mark the date with a commemmoration," she spoke. It was as simple as that. "A gathering of friends in the clearing beyond our home, Stuart's and mine."

Jack had no idea what to say or how to react. None at all. He stood, gaping at her, and the only sound he made was one of gurgling astonishment.

Jane leaned forward, letting her vest loose as she smiled shyly and took her hands to close his chin. "Don't gape, brother dearest," she teased softly. "It is very rude."

Jack's jaw clamped shut and his eyes stung. Likely glistened. Her saying he was like a brother was different than calling him something like 'brother dear'.

"I...I'm sorry?" he managed. "Are you serious, Jane? A party? For me?"

She sat back upon her haunches and stared up at him, unsure as to why it was so strange that she had suggested something of the sort. She nodded, eyes wide. "Of course!" she replied, smiling warmly. "It would be the loveliest celebration of you that I could think of. We would invite all your dearest and cater it with foods and music and wines, for you, of course."

He smiled brilliantly wide and rushed forward, wrapping her in a tight hug. Careful, but tight. "You're too good to me, Jane."

Jane let out a surprised squeak at the hug, but embraced him in return, closing the distance he had left, for she was not glass, contrary to everyone's opinion of her. "And next year," she announced, "you will have a little friend to help with your birthday, to ring it in."

His heart siezed a little, but he just held on. Would he really be here that long? It was inconceivable. "Thank you."
