It was a brave woman who took her infant godson for a walk in her kimono.

On the other hand, O-Ren was used to getting far worse stains out of them than any baby could provide. She'd been tempted to strap Dixon to her back for maximum mobility, but decided it could wait a year or so until Bridget was less likely to panic over the idea ( Read more... )

It felt as if it had been ages since Bridget had gotten some time to herself. And really, it had been. Over a month with not much time outside of the compound. So when O-Ren wanted to take Dixon out, she'd quickly agreed.

However, it wasn't long before Bridget started feeling restless and sought the two of them out.

"...he's just going to put that into his mouth," Bridget said, once she'd found them, trying not to seem to shocked.

"Sou desune," O-Ren agreed cheerfully. "Daijoubou, Bridget. Millions of Japanese children have eaten the petals of sakura before, and lived to tell the tale."

"How about sakura petals on strange islands that have a habit of tricking their inhabitants?" Bridget replied.

Because it would be just their luck that the tree, which might not have belonged on an island anyway, now that Bridget thought about it, would be poisonous.

"The tree is mine," O-Ren clarified. "It has my name on it, and it showed up this way."

To prove her point, she picked up a sakura petal and popped it into her mouth.

Delirium had finally gotten out of the compound. She had a headache and she missed the outside and the sky. When she approached a different side of the Island she noticed a tree she had not seen on the Island before. It was such a pretty tree. Putting her feet on it she looked at the carved name and climbed it easily. She was sitting quite happily in the tree when someone sat under the tree with a baby. Shaking the branch a few more petals fell towards the woman and baby.

"Hello up there," said O-Ren, in a pleasant enough mood to greet the woman rather than tell her to get lost. The baby squirmed in her arms, blinking up at the flower petals.

"hELLo," Delirium said from her position in the tree. The baby was a cute squirmy thing, she liked children. Children didn't come to her realm, not often and only ever to escape. She always gave them safe haven, that was why she loved her Samara. Like a sister, like a friend. Catching a falling petal she stared down at the woman in kimono. "yOu hAVe a bEautiFUL chiLD, he's sO nEw anD shiNY. caN i BLesS hiM okaSaN?"

"He's my godson," said O-Ren, watching the woman warily. The sense in her, honed by the years of kill or be killed, that was more animal and instinctive, rattled around a bit at the sight of her.

Alphonse hadn't ever seen a tree like it before. His eyes were wide and his mouth slightly open as he walked around it, then stopped short, and brightened.

"Miss O-Ren," he greeted, then hesitated and offered a grin. "Sensei," he corrected, padding over- and blinked at the baby.

"Oh, who's this?"

"This is Dixon Jones, son of Bridget Jones and Richard Riddick," said O-Ren, with cheerful solemness. "I'm sure he's pleased to meet you. Or gassy. I'm not sure yet."

"I haven't met them," Alphonse told her, then offered the baby a smile, "but it's a pleasure to meet you, I'm sure." He sat, cross legged, reaching a hand down to sift some of the fallen pink petals between his fingers.

"Back home my friend Rose had a baby. We all helped take care of him. I don't think I was much help, though."

"Sometimes I wonder if I'm much help either," said O-Ren, stroking the baby's hair. "Bridget seems to think so. I'm a little surprised I got to take him out on my own, though."

There was a baby. Where O-Ren had gotten a baby, Arya wasn't sure. She definately hadn't done it the traditional way, so this was a bit of an odd sight.

"Hello," she said, to the baby, bending double so her head was at about the same level as the child. "Who're you?"

She didn't actually expect the baby to answer, of course.

"This is Dixon Jones," said O-Ren, "son of Bridget Jones and Richard Riddick. My godchild," she added. "It's good that you meet him. I might ask you to take care of him someday."

"Dixon," she addressed the baby. "This is Arya Stark, my student."

"Richard's son? I did need to meet him, then," she said. "Nice to meet you, Dixon. I'll take very good care of you if I ever have to."

He probably didn't know what she was saying, but she thought her tone was very reassuring.

"He's named for his father," said O-Ren, who imparted most all information to Arya when it entered her mind. She stroked the baby's cheek with one slightly rough finger. "Richard shortens to Dick, and... Dick's son. Dixon. Bridget likes tradition."

She shrugged. "Then again, my grandmother was named Chie, and my mother Chieko, or child of Chie. You won't find many places daughters carry the mark of their mothers like that."
