Inigo did not think he liked the dinosaurs any longer, though it had to be said that Inigo did not think he liked the dinosaurs in the first place, not even the little ones. Particularly not when the little ones swarmed the edges of the compound and Inigo was forced to stab them with his sword to keep them from getting inside. Inigo had not minded ( Read more... )

Winry was on her way from the compound to her treehouse when she saw the guy standing by himself with his sword in the air. "Hi there," she said with a little wave. "What'cha doin' waving your sword around like that?"

"Me?" said Inigo, waving his arms to and fro, waiting to feel that pull in a particular direction. "I am looking for inspiration, but I do not think there is any inspiration to be had today."

"Yes, you," said Winry, trying not to giggle. Who else would she be talking to? He was the only one there, and he looked very funny waving his sword around like that. "What sort of inspiration are you looking for? Maybe I can help."

"My house, it was crushed by a dinosaur," Inigo explained, though 'house' might have been a gross exaggeration, "and now I have to build a new one, and I do not know where I want to build this new house."

"Oh, that's awful," said Winry. "I built my house that way --" she gestured in the direction of her treehouse, barely visible from the path, "--and I like it. It's a nice location, not too close so it's not noisy, but close enough that you don't have to walk an hour for a sandwich." There was a stream nearby too, and one of these days Winry was going to rig up some plumbing. She just hadn't got around to it yet.

"Is it in a very nice place then, your house?" said Inigo speculatively. "For my house, I will need a place to put my boat, but it is a very small boat. I think perhaps I should be building close to the beach again."

Winry grinned. He had a funny way of talking, but he seemed an all right sort anyway.

"I built it myself," she said proudly. "You can take a look if you want. Maybe it'll give you some ideas for rebuilding your house." She put a hand on her hip, looking around them, then added, "You know, if you want to build at the beach, a treehouse wouldn't be a bad idea. Or at least something on stilts. I heard a lot of people's houses down near the beach got all flooded last weekend."

"Yes, I saw some of them myself," said Inigo with a sage nod. He'd had enough trouble with the lean-to, though; he wasn't sure he was up to the task of a treehouse. "This house of yours, you will show it to me? I think that would be very useful."

"Sure!" said Winry. She loved showing off her house, after all the work she'd put into it (and would keep putting work into it, because it would never really be done), so she didn't mind at all. "Maybe it'll give you some ideas. I love to make things, so I got a little carried away," she added sheepishly.

"I'm Winry, by the way," she said as they set off down the path. "Winry Rockbell. What's your name?"

"My name is Inigo Montoya," he told her as they walked, looking up at the trees and getting a feel for the area. "This house of yours, you made it all yourself?"

"Of course I did," said Winry. "Well.. I did have some help from my friend Edward, but I designed it all. It really wasn't all that hard. I can show you how, if you like."

Winry's treehouse wasn't that far from the compound, so they reached it in no time. "This is it," she said proudly. "There's a ladder, for now, though I'm going to build real stairs eventually." She was reconsidering that idea ever since the incident with the dinosaurs, though. Being able to pull that ladder up kept the little demons from reaching them, and stairs would have led them right in. "Do you want to take a look?"

"Yes, I would like very much to look," said Inigo. "This is much different from the home I had before. In fact, the home I had before is like nothing compared to this home."
