PM clinic post... (or not).

Mar 18, 2007 18:57

Since I was well enough yesterday to leave the clinic as a patient, I thought that today I would be well enough to go back to it as a doctor and at least catch up on administrative things. I wanted to thank Dr Beckett for handling everything so well, since I hadn't had a chance in the midst of everything, and I also wanted to look through the ( Read more... )

Since talking with Catherine a few days ago, Carson had been taking her advice. But he wouldn't feel completely alright with taking some time away from the clinic until he was sure that things were under control. So he'd gone just for a moment, mostly for his own piece of mind.

"Well look who's up and about," He said, entering the clinic, pleased to see Claire.

I felt a bit sheepish as I admitted, "Not quite as up and about as I'd like to be, unfortunately. I just couldn't sit around much longer and do absolutely nothing." I was terrible at sitting back and even worse at being a patient.

Flexing the fingers of my injured arm a bit to ward off stiffness, I added, "I wanted to thank you for patching me up, and apologise for not being perhaps the best of patients." I had been restless and cranky every waking minute, and if I had a patient like me I probably would have strangled me before the week was out.

"Oh, believe me," Carson said, smiling a little, "You're not the worst patient I've had. Don't give it a second thought."

He was momentarily reminded of every single time he'd had to treat Rodney back on Atlantis. And even just a few days ago, when he'd come in after he'd been grazed by a bullet; he'd acted almost as if he'd lost a limb.

"How are you feelin' by the way?"

"I've been better," I admitted. "I thought I was up to coming back to work today, but I don't think I'm going to be very much use to anyone with this headache." I could manage to at least read up on what happened while I was semi-conscious, but that would likely be all. "I heard that you did a great job with getting everyone organised and keeping things running smoothly during all the chaos." That took some doing, since so many people here were used to being in charge or at the top of their field back home, and with good reason.

"Well, everyone had to pitch in and do their part," Carson said, offering her a smile.

Then he took in what she'd said about the headache, and Carson furrowed his eyebrows, looking momentarily concerned. "You shouldn't push yourself," He cautioned, "You've plenty of doctors here willin' t'take up the slack 'til you're completely on your feet again,"

...plenty of doctors as long as there wasn't mass panic and chaos on the island.

And now he felt guilty for thinking about taking some time away.
