Saturday morning
If Stacy would have been at home, or even in Princeton, she'd have been at her desk by now. Case files would be spread across her desk, and Mark would be moving around in the next room. The rat - Steve McQueen, rather - was dealt with, and the house would have been peaceful again.
But now when Stacy woke up she was greeted with different noises, smells, surroundings. It had been well over a week now and she was still getting used to it.
Her leg gave a sympathetic, soft throb and she narrowed her eyes to avoid flinching. Greg had taken care of it - as he always did - stitching her up even though she'd wanted to tell him to stop fussing. Now though she was glad he did, because it was healing nicely and she could walk on it again.
The clothing box had been fairly kind to her and while her pants and blouse from before had been pretty much ruined, Stacy had been able to retrieve a light blue top and soft black pants that reminded her of something she'd wear to exercise in. The tennis shoes were far better than her heels, and she was fairly comfortable now. Even sleeping on the couch was all right. It was comfortable.
She made her way out of the front of the treehouse and into the soft sunlight, shielding her eyes with her hand. Her wedding ring was off her finger now, tucked away with the remains of the clothes she'd worn when she came here. She just couldn't make herself throw those things away. Maybe in time, but she wasn't thinking about that. Chase had indicated they had nothing but time here, and if he turned out to be right she'd deal with that later on.
For today, maybe she'd explore. Take a short walk. Stacy didn't know for sure, and all she did know was that the day was beautiful and she wasn't about to waste it.
