One wouldn't think so to catch a glimpse of Horatio's grim expression as he led his team out the doors of the Compound, but he was pleased to have been able to assemble such an able-bodied group at a moment's notice ( Read more... )

Stacy couldn't remember much of what happened. It was chaos and a lot of it, the roaring pulse of - animals? - something from childhood nightmares that should have stayed there. She didn't like it, didn't want to listen to it anymore ( ... )

With Quatre covering them both defensively, the two headed out from the compound, cautiously heading east on the main path. It wasn't the first time Sara had wished for a gun, but it was the first time here; not that she didn't trust Quatre, but more that they might need more than one.

After about fifteen minutes, her eyes caught a flash of unnatural colour, and she held up a hand for Quatre to pause as she looked at it again, then proceeded forward. "Hello?" she called quietly. "Who's there, please?"

Quatre stopped, the Beretta a little too easy in his hand, a little too natural. He looked from Ms. Sidle to the person in the shadows, poised for defense, but it didn't feel like a dinosaur.

Then again, since he'd come to the island he hadn't been feeling much of anything. "Are you all right?"

"Hello?"

Stacy's voice was slightly hoarse, but not enough to where it would crack. She swallowed and licked her lips again, trying without avail to get her leg up under her again. It didn't work and she slipped back to the ground, hissing in frustration.

"Is someone there?"

"Shhh," Sara said, pushing through the brush to spot the dark-haired woman. "I'm Sara, and this is Quatre. We're from the compound and we're going to get you back there, okay?" There was a pause as she looked Stacy over. "I think asking you if you need medical assistance is kind of redundant."

She was right, really. Quatre pushed through the brush to join Ms Sidle and the injured woman. "Where are you hurt?" he asked, half-kneeling next to her. "Can you walk, or do you need us to carry you?"

[OMG so sorry! I thought I had it tracked but I apparently didn't.]

Relief flashed across Stacy's face, and she gave them both a smile that was thready, but echoed it. "Stacy," she said, "and..I think I can walk. It looks a lot worse than it is."

She'd be all right with a little help, and thankfully that was what had come. Stacy swiped some of the blood from her face with the back of her hand.

"I..what's going on? Out here?" She kept her voice soft at their direction.

"Dinosaurs, the fence is down," Sara said simply, opening her pack and kneeling by Stacy. She took out the clove oil and her water bottle, best she could do for now. "Is this your only major injury, Stacy?" she asked, looking her in the eye as she spoke to her. "How's your head?"

Quatre nodded confirmation as he stood up, keeping an eye--and the gun--out in case there was any unwanted company. "We can carry you if you're not sure," he offered, dropping the first aid kit onto the ground near Ms. Sidle. "Do you need anything from that?"

Stacy kept her eyes on Sara's, nodding her confirmation. "Yes, I think this is it. My head's clear, I'm not having any sort of strange vision."

She knew some of what they'd ask for, Greg had done the same in the past. Her eyes shifted briefly to Quatre then, and there was gratitude in them, but she was too tired to voice it.

"Just keep an eye out, and here, put this back," Sara said, smiling and handing Quatre the water bottle before sniffing the clove oil and nodding. "This is going to sting," she said apologetically, before dabbing it onto the wound.

Quatre tucked the bottle into the bag, standing back to let Ms. Sidle, who seemed to know what she was doing, take car of Stacy's injuries while he kept an eye out for dinosaurs. "Don't worry."

"That's fi-iiine." Stacy bit back what wanted to be a whimper, and instead screwed her eyes tightly shut. Sara knew what she was doing, she was sure of it. Her eyes moved to Quatre's face and she managed to keep hold of her smile, faint as it was, while staying still.

Sara worked fast, though, out of pure necessity and training, and it was over momentarily. "Okay. Are you going to need for us to carry you, Stacy? We've got the equipment, you don't have to be embarrassed or anything like that."

"It might be best anyway," Quatre suggested. "None of us are doctors, there's no way to tell for certain if you'll hurt yourself more by walking."

Stacy nodded, refusing to put up a fight. "And I'd just slow us down. All right then, thank you." Her voice was still quiet but the gratitude wasn't something she'd hide.
