She's cutting off her hair again - says "This is all of me" -

Feb 27, 2007 20:26

Veronica Mars had a pair of scissors. She wasn't running, although she felt a little tempted to, just to go against conventional wisdom. She had scissors in her bag and she was walking, looking for someone she knew. Just this once, she was looking for help. See, she knew better than to cut her own hair ( Read more... )

I round a corner with a bowl full of pineapple in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other, and almost get knocked down by Veronica, totin' a big pair of scissors and that determined look she gets. "You had enough of this place finally?" I ask, eyebrows up. "'Cus y'know there are quicker methods of endin' it all than the old snick-snick." I motion with one finger at my wrist.

Veronica raised her head with a little frown, but it quickly turned into a sort of half-meant smile. It would've been funny if it hadn't been... well, not funny. Not today. Not now. "If I was going to do that," she said darkly, "I'd borrow Logan's gun. No, the only thing getting the old snick-snick today is my hair. It's driving me crazy."

My eyebrows go even further up. "Echolls has a gun? Didn't anyone 'round here ever watch those TV specials about what happens when you give weapons to children?" It's not really somethin' I expect her to answer, though; what's there to say? Echolls is a little nuts, and if he wants to go all paranoid-in-the-jungle on us, more power to him.

I shift the bowl and cup to one hand and hold the door open for her, following her in and shutting it behind me. "What," I say at her look, hopping up to sit on the counter. "Someone's gotta make sure you don't end up lookin' like you fed yourself through the wrong end of a food processor."

"He's got one and he uses it," Veronica said under her breath, watching Weevil with curious caution. Eyebrows lifted as she understood what he meant, and she smirked a little, lips quirking higher one one side. She waved the scissors a little in front of him. "You know how to cut hair," she said, as much as a statement as a question. "What happened up there then?" She nodded to him, to indicate his own head.

Delirium had been running through the trees, running quickly as if something was chasing her and running towards the Compound. She jumped over a branch and finally saw the path, she'd been lost for quite a while amongst the trees. Little Red shouldn't go a-wandering from the path. She paused out of breath on the road, bending as her sides and lung screamed at her in agony. She was on the path though, paths were for safety and for ignorance.

As she tried to catch her breath she realised she was standing right by one of her mortals. Grinning as she breathed heavily, she looked up at her and waved at the girl-woman. "hi vERoniCA!"
Delirium said chirpily.

The sudden appearance of the woman through the trees would have been startling enough without being called by her own name. Veronica's eyes went a little wide despite herself. Setting her mouth in a thin line of a frown, she looked warily at the woman as she stepped cautiously back. Too many people knowing who she was. "Hi," she said slowly. "Do I... know you?"

"nO, yEs. kiNd Of," Delirium said panting as she collapsed onto the path sitting down and staring up at her mortal. She'd given her such a nice gift, most mortals especially Geoffrey didn't appreciate it though. She had no idea how to use tact or discretion though or really lying, so she sat there dazed looking at Veronica. "aLL OF thE abOVe. i'M dEL, i kiNda LOoKED afTer You foR A whiLe. whAT arE you doiNG?"

"Walking," Veronica said. She wasn't looking to get her hair cut by a stranger; even if she turned out to know how, instinct meant Veronica only trusted a certain set of people with something like that. Sliding the scissors into her bag, she slipped her hands in her pockets and looked down at Del, sitting there. "What do you mean, you looked after me?"

Jim had just left the rec room, book in hand. He had been planning on going outside somewhere to sit and read, finding living and hanging out in the compound all the time a little stifling. He did miss his hut, sometimes.

The plan was pushed aside, however, when he happened upon Veronica just standing and staring at herself. Raising a brow, he walked a little closer.

"What're you doing?" he asked, looking at her, then the scissors in her hand.

Veronica looked back at Jim in the mirror. "Admiring myself," she said wryly. "If I look long enough, I'll turn into a flower." Struck down where she stood for vanity or some crap like that.

"Wow. Well, I hope you're not planning on me watering you when you turn into one," he responded dryly, leaning against the wall next to the mirror. "I do really bad with plants. I'm hoping that's not a bad sign about how well I'll do taking care of a kid."

"Wait, you're not gonna take care of me?" Veronica asked plaintively, turning to look over her shoulder at him. "That's so not cool, Jim."

Isolde wandered down the halls of the compound, on her way from one task to another, moving just for the sake that moving felt good, and because she was doing something as she pushed into bathroom, dirt on her hands. She saw Veronica, staring so hard at her reflection it was almost as if the other girl was trying to change herself away. She didn't get such things, but the girl was, she certainly knew the feeling.

"Tisn't water, there aren't any ripples t'change," Isolde commented, laughing just a little. "The harder ye stare, the less likely the one t'change is you." She said, coming to stand next to her.

Veronica watched Isolde in the mirror. She made her feel calmer, though she didn't know why. "I'm not looking to change anything but my hair," she said easily. She felt strangely at peace. This, this was something she could control. Logan had never been something she could grasp and shape, no matter how much she had wanted to; she could wish for him to change, but it wouldn't happen.

This was something Isolde could understand, and she gave her own head a gentle shake, blonde curls hanging everywhere. "That's good. It doesna hurt much anyone. It can very good." The edge of her smile curled up a little bit and she tilted her head curiosly. "D'ya need any help?"

It always did her good. Conscious choice or no, it felt like starting over, and starting over was just what she needed right now. "You know how to cut hair?" Veronica asked, looking back over her shoulder at Isolde. "I just want to take a few inches off, get it out of my way. If you're not busy, I mean."

River thought that Veronica looked about as restless as she felt. She had been running with Simon close behind her, but they slowed to a walk on the path. People got nervous when they saw someone running for no reason, she had noticed.

"Hi," she said. Simon just greeted her with a short bark and a wagging tail,

[Going to bed, but River needs her hair cut, too. They can be girls together. :D]

"Hi," Veronica said, smiling at the sight of them as she knelt down to pet Simon. "Hey there." Looking back up to River, she quirked a half-grin. "Where you off to?"

"Noplace in particular. I figure I'll know where I'm meant to be when I get there, but I don't think I've found it yet."

She smiled down at Simon, who wriggled in ecstacy at the attention. "Where's Taser? Running wild with the wrong crowd, or something more likely like with your dad?"

"She picked up a pack of her own on the wrong side of the nonexistent tracks," Veronica said, voice turning hard and cool and lean as she tilted back her head. And then broke a grin. "Actually, she's driving Lilly crazy. It all works out in the end. I'm huntin' down a haircut and I figured bringing the mutt along wouldn't help get things done today."
