awake but cannot open my eyes

Veronica Mars was sitting on a table - not at it, but on it, legs swinging off the edge as she sipped at a cup of coffee. She'd been itching to bake since she'd mentioned it to George the week before. But now that she was here in the kitchen, ready to give in to the stupid girly urge - and really, it wasn't like she even had a passable reason like ( Read more... )

Unlike Fiona, who was more content to enjoy the outdoors for the most part than follow Jim around all day, the kitten he was watching had become almost an attachment to his body. She demanded a lot of attention, and Jim, being the sucker that he was, gave her it.

He had ventured out of the rec room and into the kitchen, the cat in his arms, in hopes of finding some scraps for her to eat. He was mildly surprised to see Veronica hanging out in the area, and despite an urge to point fingers and declare war, Jim just acted normally.

She'd never know he knew she was behind what happened. Not until he got her back.

"Hey," he greeted, walking over with the ball of fluff in tow. He peered down at the book she was reading. "Oh, are you cooking me something? Awesome."

Veronica laughed, looking up. "Yes, you caught me," she deadpanned. "I was planning on preparing a six course meal for you, but you ruined the surpri-" She trailed off as she caught sight of the kitten, expression shifting into mild adoration. "You brought me a kitten!"

"Man, even Pam has never made me a six course meal before," he said. "You're the best, Veronica."

His eyes followed her gaze. Goldie was looking up at Veronica with big eyes, her head cocked just slightly to the side. "Damn, and now you ruined my surprise."

Veronica ignored the rest of the joke, reaching out to touch the kitten with one hand as she set her cup down with the other. "Oh, she's adorable," she enthused. Small, fluffy animals - an unfortunate weakness. "Where did she come from?"

Having shaved the day before and once again deciding that personal hygiene was something he enjoyed, Logan was back to looking mostly like himself. This was a good thing, really, the Grizzly Adams look hadn't suited him at all. But other then the fact that he looked a bit tired and his eyes weren't quite as bright as they usually were, Logan looked as he always did.

He even managed a smile for Veronica.

"Let me guess, you started the first island Girl Scout troop and now you have to sell cookies or you'll never get that merit badge? I'll take two boxes of thin mints."

"All out," Veronica said immediately. "Only got the Samoas left. Really, you need to be on top of these things. You know how fast the thin mints go." God, she could have used a box of those, now that she thought about it. Minty chocolate-y goodness in a box.

Really, really soft, Mars.

"I hate coconut, always gets stuck in my teeth," Logan replied easily, moving to sit beside her and taking the cookbook off her lap to flip through. "What's the occasion?" he asked curiously, flipping through the pages of cakes and cookies.

Veronica shrugged. "Just felt like it," she said. She had a feeling George wouldn't want her mentioning the Strawberry Shortcake apron, though. "Something to do. And you know you're living in the wrong place for a coconut hater, right?"
