Jane woke with a start that Monday morning, snoring mildly as she snapped awake, taking in her surroundings almost distractedly. She was nearly late again and she hurried to dress in a non-confining dress and pair of tights, more modern than most days, rushing towards the compound. The exhaustion was part and parcel, she supposed, of everything, but it was still highly unwelcome.
She arrived in the kitchen as the sun was rising, later than usual for her.
Today, she cooked at twice the speed as usual, her pace brisk and hurried as she made the pizza of fruit, glazed in sugar and topped with mangoes, avocado, and a berry icing. It did look delicious and was set to the fridge to chill while she made tea, coffee, and juice.
Beyond that, she prepared small round omelettes of eggs, cut with a bit of mild spice and meat, all in individual servings and thinned by using water and the slightest of milk. Those were set upon a plate as she took out the pizza and cut it into squares, setting those out as well.
To finish the morning, she took the yams and the coconut, using honey as well to prepare an odd salad that her recipe book exalted as being quite tasty. With all this done, she set it out, slicing bread and toasting it, all before a single person came into the kitchen. Jane was quite proud of her work and as she sat at the table to properly fix her hair for the morning, she knew she had done well.
