Teek cheeped, then shook her head briskly back and forth, fluttering her wings. Perhaps the ant was a little too much for her. She could catch it, but then it would squirm out of her beak and fall back into Qui-Gon's hand. Finally he let it go, setting it back on the ground with supreme care and watching it go about its business. The little bird seemed to prefer breadcrumbs anyway, but he preferred that she learn to catch her own food sooner, rather than later.
"Better?" he asked her with a low chuckle, once she'd finished gobbling up every crumb of bread he offered her. She cheeped again, and then fluffed herself into a chubby little ball, her eyes closing, so he tucked her back into the sling and felt her settle into sleep.
The sunlight was slanting into early evening, but the air here by the waterfall remained cool, a more constant and comfortable temperature. Closing his eyes, he leaned back against both hands, enjoying the peaceful air of the coming night. Despite the frantic confusion of switching bodies once again, the island had remained mostly quiet recently, without so great a panic, and he appreciated the tranquility, however temporary.
