Blow the man down

Anamaria didn't apologize. She never explained herself and had long ago jettisoned guilt, sending it to the depths with other weaknesses like sympathy and mercy and faith. She made her choices and be damned anyone who didn't agree or understand. It was a strategy that had served her faithfully for nigh on thirty years, perhaps more (she really ( Read more... )

Hearing the screach of the Hellbitch, Ragetti poked his head up from his place below deck and climbed the stairs enough so that he could see her as well.

"Ain' seen no whelp, bu' met a man dat look jus' like 'im. Nice fella, gonna give me a tatto whens I figure out whot ta trade." He rattled aimlessly as he grinned with her, puffing his chest and craning his neck as he obviously tried to flaunt his eye-patch.

So Ragetti had met Regulus, well, wasn't that a treat.

"And how's a mangy seadog like yourself going to find anything worth trading?" called back the pirate lass. Those as knew her well would have heard the amusement in the question.

He shrugged and climbed a few more stairs, but for the most part was still below deck.

"I dunno. Steal, build, make summat or sexual favors?" He said the last one with a grin and a sharp giggle, shaking his head at the ridulous thought of anything like that happening with a bloke that looked anything like Turner. The thought was just funny. "Figure I'll trade work or summat. 'e might need summat done, I'll offer ta do i'."

Cerberus yipped from his place by a cannon and Ragetti looked down and shushed him, finger to his chapped lips before looking back to the pirate wench innocently.

Knowing Regulus, the sexual favors were probably less out of the question than Ragetti imagined. But that was hardly her place to say.

"Aye now, I'm sure you'll come up with something. I see you're sporting a new bit of shine." She indicated his eye-patch.

"The Captain's about bringing mutts on board?" she looked surprised.

He preened and nodded, absently reaching up to touch the smooth material with his fingertips. "Me firs' Christmas present!" Despite his truthful dislike for patches, the accesory was deeply appreciated and he actually quite liked it. Nothing like an eye of course, but it was better than nothing. And he honestly wasn't fond of getting his socket infected again, so he had reserved himself to the fact he wouldn't be wearing his prosthetic.

He squeaked and looked down to into the ship at his dog, which was wagging his tail and looking at him expectantly. "Ummm..." He started lamely, rubbing the back of his neck. "I 'aven't really told ole' Cap'n Jack 'bout da dog yet. But wit da weather back ta normnal, I needed ta git back ta carin' for da cannons, ans didn' want ta leave 'im behind."

Anamaria tipped her wide-brimmed hat at him, "He'll not hear of it from me. Cap'n'll not be fooled long, mind. You'd best explain that animal to him."

He nodded, looking at her gratefully and looked about to see if the captain in question was looking. Seeing no sign of him, he ducked down into the ship and returned up the stairs again, holding his fuzzy white-ish yellow mutt proudly in her view.

"I called 'im Cerberus. Look! 'e got keys jus' like Jail Dogs 'ave!"

It was indeed a mutt, a more muttish mutt there had never been. And it was clear as day that Ragetti couldn't be more pleased with his pup.

Anamaria decided to smile. "He's a fine dog. Mind you tell the Captain before the Captain finds out on his own."

He nodded enthusiastically, hair flying everywhere as he did so. "Aye, I'll tell 'im. Cerberus good dog, so 'e won' be no trouble." Said dog began to wag his brush like tail and settled for gnawing on the pirate's sleeve playfully.

"See that he's not," Anamaria warned again.

She looked around the deck of the ship and wondered, not for the first time or the fiftieth if she should move here, sleep on ship as part of the crew rather than staying her in hut so far from everything.

But then again, she didn't really like most of the crew and that posed a problem.

Nodding again, he beamed and set the animal down, encouraging it to go back below deck with his foot.

"Now dat da weather good, " he said suddenly, trying to pique a conversation, "I finkin' o' buidin' a hut near 'ere. Dun wanna live on da Pearl unless Pintel is 'ere, but no sign o' him yet. But a hut nearby be nice idea, ans den I can keep up wit me duties."

Anamaria nodded vaguely. "Living on ship when you've nowhere to go is a waste of berth space. And the Captain can't complain about the mutt if he's not on board."

He nodded and dropped gracelessly to lounge on the top of the steps. Mainly so that he could look at her and still keep an eye on the curious pup below.

"Still righ' queer ta see Cap'n ans da Pearl 'ere. Dey was at da bottom of da sea back 'ome." He said this idely as he picked at some grime beneath his fingernails with a small dirk from his belt.

"So I've heard," Anamaria remarked, "and that Jack had actually lived up to his word and replaced for me the ship he'd stolen."

He scratched his cheek. "I dunno 'bout dat. But den, I was prolly in prison gittin' ready ta hang when dat 'appened. 'e stole yer ship?" He snorted in amusement. He actually didn't know very much about what the Captain had been up to those ten years they had thought him dead, a bleached grinning skeleton on a spit of land.

"Borrowed without permission, says he. With every intention of returning it." She laughed once, harshly, "But he didn't. I accompanied him to the Isla de Muerte only because he owed me a ship and I was given no other choice unless I wanted to stay in Tortuga and turn whore."
