Bring on the island ladies!

Will walked along the beach, thinking furiously. Abby was obviously frigid, or a lesbian. Honestly, how could she have rejected him like that? He'd thought they were friends! But it wasn't as if she was the only woman on the bloody island. Will just didn't know enough of them, was the problem ( Read more... )

River pretty much wanted to be left alone now. She was tired of not knowing what to expect, with everyone acting so strangely. She hoped that (what was left of) her crew were unaffected, because she just wanted to hide in her bunk until everything was normal again.

She would have avoided Will if he hadn't already seen her.

Score. Will broke into a grin and sauntered toward River, hands tucked casually into his pockets. "Hullo again, Rrriver," he greeted her, giving her a flirtatious smile.

"Hi, Will," she said cautiously. She didn't know him well enough to tell if he was himself right away. Experience had taught her to assume the worse. "What are you up to today?"

"Mmm, looking for you, actually," Will purred, moving closer. "I haven't been able to stop thinking about you." He reached out to caress her cheek.

"Looking for me? What for?" River stepped deftly out of his reach before he could touch her. Definitely another person the island had messed with. "I'd guess you're not quite feeling like yourself, are you?"

"What? I feel perfectly normal," Will insisted, frowning slightly. Why did everyone keep saying that? "I've simply seen the error of my ways, and have changed how I look at life." He looked the bit of life standing before him up and down and smiled warmly. "You're very pretty, you know."

"'The error of your ways'?" she repeated.

What had he thought she looked like before, she wondered but did not ask. She didn't want to encourage this new behavior, and at least he wasn't being a little bit scary like Toby had been.

"That's nice of you to say, but you know I already have a- someone, don't you?" she asked gently. "Maybe you ought to be looking for someone else."

"Yeah. The whole gay thing? Not me at all. Must've just been a phase." Not that he'd ever told River he was gay, but well. He wasn't now, so what did it matter.

Will wrinkled his nose at the next piece of information. He hadn't known, actually. "Bugger...is he big?"

"I think phases are going around." She didn't try to convince him that it was likely that this was the phase and he'd be back to normal in a day or two. At least she hoped very much that everyone would be back to normal soon.

"Big? Not especially. Well-armed, though. Not that it matters, because I'm not interested in anyone else. Though you're very nice," she assured him. "Some other girl - or boy - would be lucky to have you."

"...Oh." Will looked dispirited, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Right, then. Your loss." He sniffed disdainfully and turned, walking away again. Honestly, had the entire female population of the island gone mad? Who wouldn't want him?

"Right." River felt kind of sad. She didn't want to kiss Will any more than she'd wanted to kiss Toby, but she didn't like disappointing people. "I'm sorry," she called after him. "If I didn't already have a - my Captain, I might not tell you no."
