It was true Cooper wasn't spending as much time in the Council offices as he had in the wake of the hurricane -- and he certainly was no longer sleeping in them -- but that didn't mean he wasn't still putting in his time, in case there was anything he could do for anybody. (Or maybe just for the peace and quiet that the office afforded him, not ( Read more... )

"Hey, anything interesting in there?" Joe asked, leaning against the doorframe and glancing at Dale's book. The fact that his sleep still felt most dreamless and empty bothered him, though not enough to go look for a book himself. Maybe Dale would find something worthwhile.

"Well, I suppose that would depend on what you find interesting," said Dale, closing the book on his finger and giving Joe a friendly grin. "How are you doing today, Joe? Anything I can do for you?"

"I'm okay," Joe said vaguely, his eyes still on the book. "What's it about, anyway? 'Cause since I got here I don't really remember my dreams."

"Dream interpretation, mostly," said Dale, glancing at the cover and then back at Joe again. "I've always been a pretty vivid dreamer; it's nice to be able to make some sense of them."

Jane had noticed throughout the day that Mr. Cooper did his work in the Council office and in her time between serving, had created a small platter of food (the peanut butter pancakes, and fresh strawberries). She knocked on the door, the plate in her hand. "Are you quite busy?" she entreated.

"I cannot tell a lie," said Dale swinging his feet down off the desk and giving her a smile. "I am not currently busy. Miss Bennet, it's a pleasure to see you."

Jane nodded in deference as she entered, placing the plate down. "I hope you do not mind. I had quite a bit extra in cooking this morning and saw you working so diligently." She had always found it quite fit to give those who worked hard a reward, as it did speak wonders as to the gratitude of those the work benefitted.

"You brought me something to eat?" said Dale, surprise and appreciation in his voice. "That's very kind of you, thank you. Would you care to join me while I enjoy it? And I'm very certain I will enjoy it; the way to a man's heart truly is through his stomach."

Mamet's wandering with no real purpose or destination in mind. He likes how you can just go into any of the compound rooms, like a public library. Not that he's spent a lot of time in libraries - except back in high school to have some privacy for making out. He comes across Dale and smiles, giving the side of one of Dale's shoes a rap with his knuckle. "Hi, you look relaxed."

Dale grinned and, unlike when anyone else came to visit him in the Council offices, left his feet up on the desk. "Mamet, it's good to see you again. How've you been?"

Mamet looks a little surprised and smiles. "I've been okay. Today at least, I got Helena to walk through a hula hoop." After some prodding to her backside, but he doesn't mention that part. "How are you?"

"Pretty good, pretty good," said Dale, setting down his book on the desk. "And Helena is...." He searched his memory. "Your chicken?"

Chris rested against the doorframe of the IBI office for a long moment, his arms crossed over his chest as he watched Dale. The guy was really into whatever he was reading as he never even looked up once.

Finally, Chris cleared his throat a little and gave crooked sort of smile, his voice teasing. "You know, I could come by later if you're busy..."

Cooper instantly swung his legs down and gave Chris a sheepish grin. "Sorry about that," he said, waving the book vaguely. "Been having a bit of a dry spell here in the office. I got a little distracted."

Chris broke into a laugh and shook his head as he walked into the room, immediately plopping himself down into the chair opposite Dale's desk. "Anything interesting?" he asked, squinting at the cover a little as he shifted forward in the chair, his forearms resting on the desktop, hands folded comfortably.

"Just a bit of armchair dream interpretation," he said. "I find a man's dreams can be one of the most revealing things about him. And mine in particular are a source of constant fascination."

No there was a familiar face. "Good sir!" Rosencrantz cried, waving as he approached. "Good sir, how have you been? I've not seen you in quite some time." To be honest, he had forgotten the man's name. But the face he knew.

"Rosencrantz!" said Dale cheerfully. "It has been a long time. I believe we enjoyed an excellent game of questions once, am I right?"
