Romana was doing the maths, sort of. Properly, she was standing in front of the pool table in the rec room, cue in hand, playing against herself and surveying the arithmetic behind it. Really, it was quite elementary, but in a pinch like this, she was quite up the challenge of seeing if such a simple sport could be made, well, more complex ( Read more... )

Veronica good mood was wearing thin. No, scratch that, it was pretty much gone; Logan had seen to that - Logan saying nice things, Logan not smirking, Logan missing her, Logan kissing her. He ruined her life by playing nice.

Still she grinned when she stepped into the room in the middle of a familiar song. "Rilo Kiley," she remarked cheerfully, and turned her smile to the other blonde. "You don't like Jenny Lewis?"

Romana turned to look at who had addressed her and shook her head at the petite blonde girl. "What? Oh no, not quite that." She sighed and rolled her eyes slightly at the lyrics. She gestured at the jukebox and gave the girl a mild smile mixed in with a cringe. "It's what the song says. I don't particularly care for the lyrics. They're well, rather pointed."

"Oh," Veronica said, nodding. "If you think that's pointed, just pray it doesn't play you 'It's a Hit.' I like most of their stuff, though." Stepping closer, she offered a hand and a grin. "Veronica Mars."

"I don't know that one, but I can only guess," Romana nodded, frowning slightly at the thought of something worse. She shook her head, banishing the thought and smiled as she accepted the girl's hand. "Fred."

Veronica had a good, firm handshake, courtesy of her dad, and when she pulled back, she leaned against the pool table. It was an unusual name, but who was she to talk? "Nice to meet you, Fred. Were you gonna play yourself?"

Neil had asked her that the other day. Before she'd known who he was. Before his boyfriend kissed me. It seemed a long while ago.

Romana looked back at the table for a moment, studying it before looking back at the girl, Veronica. "No, not really. Right now I was, messing about."

She smiled and shrugged. It had been what she'd been doing, until that blasted song had happened.

Veronica nodded, smiling wryly. "Well, don't let that thing get to you. It heralded the arrival of my boyfriend Duncan with a song called 'Duncan,' and it likes to play me music about some girl named Veronica. Subtlety isn't exactly its strongpoint."

"I think if it went for subtlety it'd die of shock," Romana replied with a roll of her eyes. "I suppose I could be greatful there have been no mentions of 'doctors' in any of the songs. I think I'd have problem for certain."

"Are you a doctor?" Veronica raised an eyebrow. This island had a real thing for doctors, it would seem - and apparently, it didn't hurt if they dressed like schoolgirls. Kinky island, can't you pick one thing to be perverted about? ...I guess not.

Romana let out a low whistle and shook her head fairly quickly. "No, no, definitely not. I just...well, I just happen to have been notorious with one and confused for another. Long story," she explained, with a grimacing smile as she tugged on her tie.

"Ah," Veronica said with a nod. "Then you're definitely lucky. No matter how many times I explain I've never been a spy or a man, it insists on playing me 'Secret Agent Man.'" She gave a 'go figure' shrug.
