The compound was stifling. The number of people crowded inside was extraordinary, and Clarice could only go for so long holed up in the IBI offices staring at paperwork. She'd fallen asleep across her desk the past two nights, her sleep restless at best, nightmares jarring her awake, covered in sweat and trembling. As far as appearances went, she was keeping herself together fairly well, but the lack of real rest was beginning to show in the dark swaths beneath her eyes.

She needed to get out.

The devastation from the hurricane was still quite evident and depressing enough to see, but Clarice hoped that a walk in the fresh air might clear her mind, might settle the voices in her head. Slowly she walked down the main pathway, intent on seeing the sea, maybe even swimming if the mood struck her. In over four months, she'd yet to swim in the ocean. Seemed a bit like a travesty.

[Summary: Clarice escapes the compound in an attempt to preserve her sanity. She happens across Chris, with whom things are initially awkward and then a bit schmoopy as they work out previous miscommunications. She also meets Neil and is happy enough to see him and discuss curling (and curlers.)]
