After Midnight

Stu was on a mission. He'd promised Ace that he'd look for the Doctor, and even though it was late, he wasn't going to just let her sit and cry without doing anything.

The problem with his plan was that he didn't really know where the caves were, and it was a damn dark night. He made his way slowly along the path, tripping once and landing hard. ( Read more... )

It's not terribly surprising that I can't sleep. I sleep a few hours a night at best. Still, at such an hour most others do sleep or else are engaged in walks or looking at stars or other things that are none of my business. I'm not used to seeing anyone waiting at the cave entrance. I am even more surprised to see that it's Stu.

"Have you decided to camp in here instead?" I ask.

I know they've just finished talking (well, yesterday) but it makes sense for Faramir to be A) in the caves and B) awake.

"Faramir, hey, howdy."

Stu raised his hand in greeting, and stepped a little closer so he wouldn't have to speak as loudly.

"I'm actually lookin' for someone called the Doctor, do you know who he is?"

I am close to saying no but then I realise that I do know--the man Sirius thought was someone else. The man I was rather rude to during the hurricane.

"I know him--I've spoken with him only once, during the storm. Does he stay in the caves?" I saw him in here, yes, but there were many people hiding in here then.

"I really don't know. See, I went to do laundry and this girl was crying, goin' on about her fella being dead. She didn't make a whole lotta sense. I oughta thank you for warning me about how weird things were. Anyhow, sucker that I am, I told her I'd come down and see if he was in here and not dead, but I figured out 'bout halfway here that I don't even know where I'm s'posed to look."

He shook his head and sighed heavily as he crossed his arms across himself to try to keep warm. It wasn't really overly cold, just the fact that he was only half dressed in the night.
