(not friendslocked anymore because other people need to see this. I posted it in November '09, but it's backdated so it won't be the first thing people see upon coming to my LJ.)

okay um

attention everyone in the world ever

DO NOT GET A PET RABBIT IF YOU ARE NOT ENTIRELY COMMITTED TO TAKING CARE OF IT FOR ITS ENTIRE LIFE

DO NOT RELEASE A PET RABBIT INTO THE WILD

If you will not take care of your rabbit, then for its sake - and, if you are religious, for the love of God - give it to someone who will.

I know I'm singling out rabbits; you absolutely should not abandon cats or dogs in the wild, either. That is neglect. But cats and dogs hunt, while rabbits are hunted - by other humans, even. I wish your ignorant, idealistic concept were true, that if you release a rabbit, it would join the other rabbits in a wild paradise. But that's not what happens.

I'm sorry, friends-list, this isn't aimed at you. I want to scream it at the world, but I just can't do that.

I'm crying. This has happened to me before. I want all the the rabbits to be safe and happy and loved, and there is no way for me to make that happen.
