I used to be so much better about updating this thing...
I'm sitting in the RSA office, it's been my home recently. I love it in here. Even tho there's boxes and boxes and the heater/air conditioner doesn't work, and the "painters" stole the blinds for our windows...
This is the view from my desk (and if you look closely you can see the livejournal update window on my computer):
Its just this little hole in the wall that most people don't even know is here, so nobody bothers me. It basically the size of an extra large walk in closet.
I've been doing a lot of work in the lab...basically the 3 other guys in the lab sit around, sometimes watch what i'm doing, but mainly just sit around and get paid $10/hour for it. But whatever, I like my work, so it doesn't bother me. Sucks for them when employers/grad schools look at their CV and ask them how they did the work.
Today while I was in the lab I was looking up a bunch of grad schools. I've basically decided I want to go to Australian Maritime College or Univ. of Hawaii, but mom's not too happy about that. I don't know if I'd get into AMC either, it's the best school in the world for what I'm going for...so I'm sure its pretty tough..and I'm not an engineering major. I also don't know if i could get into Florida Institute of Tech or MIT, and I can't go to UDel because I didn't major in engineering. I wish there were more than 11 schools in the country with an Ocean Engineering program, but hey, it's a good way to get to go to either Australia or Hawaii. Mom would much prefer if I would go to Univ. of Rhode Island...i might as well travel while I can, and even better if I can get some learning done while I'm there.
I'm really excited about Ocean Engineering. I'm happy I finally found something I want to do. When I was younger all I wanted to do was be a marine biologist...but I took AP physics because I was good at it, then I majored in physics because I felt I should, then i was going to get my PhD in physics because that's just what comes next. Now I'm going to go into something that's going to make me happy. hooray!
Scuba Diving is also making me happy. I can't wait for the trip to Key Largo. But I also somehow have to make a lot of money by then...
I am trying to get good at photography too. I plan to have underwater photography as a hobby while i'm an Ocean Engineer. So if anybody has some good photography hints, throw 'em my way!
this is going to be me:
APO has been taking up a lot of my time too. I am really enjoying being president and making changes with the fraternity. Since I've taken over, we have had two large pledge classes with a lot of new kinds of people. We've also done a lot more with other organizations and other chapters...we've done a lot more service, which is good since it's our purpose. We've also gone from being a waste-of-space chapter to one that actually gets paperwork done on time and has a better reputation..basically, we're in good standing finally.
APO is having a formal this semester too. That's a first. Perfect timing too, it's our 10th anniversary, so we have something to celebrate. This formal is my baby, I hope it goes well. I'm scoping out locations, but we're kind of being cheap, so I think its going to be in the Atrium of Jubilee. And unlike most formals, we probably won't have a bar...so there'll have to be an after party..
I'm excited!
I don't know what I'm going to do this summer. I really don't want to spend another summer at school. But I don't really have a job at home. I feel kind of bad about leaving Dr. Sahiner hanging over the summer without someone to do research for him. Joe and Brendan are graduating and Jakub probably won't work for him because you have to be registered for classes in the fall to work over the summer, which he never is...but I shouldn't feel bad...I should be able to go home if I want to. I can tell him that i'll come up some random wednesdays or something like that...
But I need a job. That i can get a lot of money at. And that I don't have to work too many hours...basically I want the job that I have at school..but at home. Somewhere where I can just kind of do my own thing and come in when I want and leave when i want, not come in if i don't want to, don't really have to follow any direction except to follow the basic outline of what my boss wants done in a given time frame, and i get paid what i want because i fill in my own timesheet and i set my own hourly rate.....i don't think i'm going to find that anywhere...
There's still 15 people that need to come to my office hours...and my hours are done in 25 minutes...
