THE GOOD: I found an Initial D machine in Franklin Park Mall in Toledo, Ohio. Version 2.

THE BAD: The left side's coin slot is unusable, but the wheel and shifter are fine.

THE UGLY: The wheel on the right side has no force feedback, and it doesn't lock (i.e., turn it far enough right and it resets to all the way left).

I tried to do Iro in my beloved Evo III. It was an adventure getting through the menus and even down the first straight since the wheel was improperly aligned, but the real fun began when I tried to TURN. Remember that little "turn too far and the wheel reverses" thing? Now, since I didn't know where the wheel was centered and I was used to jerking the wheel to turn, I tried to do so in this instance. It resulted in a number of rapidly reversing 270's for about 40 seconds before I was able to somewhat right myself.

I didn't make it to the first checkpoint.

Okay, remember that machine I ranted about yesterday?

I went back to the mall with some fresh moolah and decided to try a couple of the things. I managed to get the wheel more or less centered during one of its infinite revolutions by using the menu screens. I fine-tuned it using the outside view displayed when my stock Evo III (on Usui) was displayed from the front. Then I took a round to get used to the wheel. The results were better than I expected:

1st run: stock Evo III on Usui, don't remember my time but it was a decent one
2nd run: stock AE85 on Akina DH. The record on the right side was a 3'14 with an Impreza. I ran a 3'08. Registered time as BEANS.
3rd run: made a card with an 85. Akagi DH record was 2'26 with an Integra (big surprise). I ran a 2'41 because I was talking to Dusty on the phone during the race.
4th run: Happo out with BEANS. 2'47, 3rd place (behind two Integras at 2'44 and 2'30).

All in all, not bad for a fucked up wheel. I intend to make myself known to the Michigan ricers.

P.S. The left side has some scary times...but if my experience with Special Stage shows anything, I'm made for the Version 2 physics. The left side's Akina DH record is 3'00"375 with an FD (!!). My record on SS is 2'58"799 with the 85, but that will NOT be easy to meet, let alone top.
