Scorpius nibbled at a sausage and glanced, only once, at the Gryffindor table. They were like a pack of wolves over there, bouncing all over the place, eating with their mouths open, and pounding one another on the back. Scorpius wrinkled his nose. So uncivilised.
As if to underscore his disapproval, Sally Finnigan threw a piece of toast across the table and hit Rose Weasley in the forehead. Scorpius missed the resulting explosion because Plumeria tugged at his sleeve.
“Blue, look. My horoscope! 'Your friends are making life simpler today - in fact, you could find that you barely have to lift a finger! Make sure to let them know how much they mean to you as you enjoy a lovely day.' Isn't that brilliant? You can start making my life easier by fetching me a warm crumpet. This one has gone cold.”
Scorpius snatched the paper out of her hand and shot a surreptitious glance (whatever, only twice) at the Gryffindors. Rose Weasley had climbed over the table as Sally had dived beneath. The other Gryffindors, including the most annoying Potter one, were laughing like hyenas. It was really too bad that Potter wasn't one of those people that looked ridiculous when laughing. In fact, he looked rather fetching.
“Let me see that.” Scorpius firmly dragged his attention away from the attention-seeking scion of the Gryffindor herd. “This paper is full of drivel.”
“Your own housemate is the Editor-in-Chief,” Plumeria pointed out.
“The Scamanders are lunatics. Everyone knows that.” Scorpius kept his voice low as he said it, because Lorcan was terrifying. “And don't remind me.”
Plumeria sniffed and Summoned her own crumpet. Scorpius might have been mistakenly Sorted into Ravenclaw, but that didn't mean he had to like it. He had taken all of his meals with Slytherin House since his second day at Hogwarts. It had caused a stir then but now, in their seventh year, no one paid any attention.
“What does your horoscope say?”
Your curiosity is making life weirder and more interesting - so follow it up! You are sure to learn new things that keep you engaged.
Scorpius tossed the Hogwarts Herald back to her. “It says I'm to follow up on my curiosity.”
“Really? So you're finally going to snog Albus Potter?”
Scorpius clamped a hand over her mouth and stared around wildly. Thankfully, no one was near enough to overhear her. “I am going to learn a permanent Silencing Charm and use it on you," he threatened venomously.
She replied, but it was muffled by his hand. Annoying Slytherin bint.
Scorpius looked--for the last time--at the Gryffindor table. Albus Potter was smiling; he leaned his head on the shoulder of his handsomest teammate, Cecil Diggory.
Scorpius seethed with envy. He raged with it. Everyone at Hogwarts, it seemed, was privy to Albus Potter's attention. Everyone but Scorpius.
Perhaps it was time to change that.
"You know, Plum, I think I will follow my curiosity."
Plumeria bit his hand.
