*heavy sigh*
Z fell in P.E. class (again), today. He was playing indoor soccer, of all things and managed to rip the fresh new skin on his recently stitched knee. He's not supposed to be doing anything contact or extremely strenuous for another week or so. Not sure why the coach had him (or let him) participate today.
Nurse called me about two o'clock to see if I'd come get him. She didn't have anything to clean the fresh wound with and she wanted me to decide if he should go to the doctor or not. Since she said he wasn't actively bleeding, I opted to take my bandage kit up to school and see how bad it was. We're currently running under the wire as far as insurance goes, so if I can keep from having to go or take anyone else to the doctor for the next two weeks, we'll be all to the good.
Got up there and looked at the new wound. He's managed to scrape off the new top layer of skin in the worst part of the original wound (does that make sense?). It didn't look too bad, but did need to be doctored a little and rebandaged. So I did that and sent him back to his last class for the day.
Talked to the nurse and wrote another note for his coach about his participation level til he's back up to at least 99% health. Nurse thought he might need a doctor's excuse for this but said she'd try and get the coach to go along with her say so.
He's doing his homework and seems mostly none the worse for wear. I told him he needs to be careful about what he's doing for at least the rest of the week. He should be able to do something that counts as participation that wont require more stitches or treatments for secondary infections in the site.
And, poor kid, I was late picking him and L up from school and the weather has turned rather nasty out there. They were both cold and grumpy when I picked them up.
Is it really on Wednesday? *sigh*
