Yeah so Dennis the hurricane was a bust. We weren't sure where it would hit so my family and I went to stay in Jackson to be on the safe side (better safe then sorry!). We stayed with Paco and Beverly Saturday night and Sunday night and then came home Monday. So Sunday night when they were gonna go to church I almost went with them but I didn't. Now I wish I would have so I could've seen all my old friends at River of Life.
So instead my mom, my brothers and I went to the old grocery store we used to shop at when we were kids. Funny how it seemed so much smaller. And then we swung by our old neighborhood to see our old house. It's had so many changes, though it looks good (it used to be baby blue but now it's light brown). We always go by the house whenever we're in Jackson. There were so many memories there.
Well that's been my weekend. Pretty uneventful. Oh! I bought a pair of black low top converse while I was there. I love them! I made some flippin' awesome peanut butter cookies today. They were perfect.
Here's a little poem I wrote on the 4th of July.
The Tastes of Freedom
The rapture of the fireworks
holds us in an awe-admiring trance
Not turning away for even a glance
We lick our blue lips
Stained so from the sweet, cold snowcone
Our fingers sticky
From the long ago eaten cotton candy
As we clap our hands for the bursting finale
The show is over
and we head to our cars
gone to celebrate
This Independence date
Gone to fulfill those time after time traditions
So we thank God
For another year
that we live together
free from fear
We smile and laugh with the juiciest watermelon
The 4th day of the 7th month has finally come
We enjoy the tastes of our bar-b-que
Like we enjoy the tastes of our freedom
