I loved the Avatar: the Last Airbender series. That's what Avatar was about before James Cameron decided Pochahontas Dances with Smurfs was a bad title for his movie. For the rest of this post, I want you to associate the term "Avatar" with a 12-year-old-boy with a blue arrow tattooed onto his forehead. Word got out quite early on in the fandom that they would be a feature-length film. Word also got out not much after that that they were making the entire cast white. Well, I can tell you the entire cast is not white. The guy playing Prince Zuko is Indian. He is not, however, hot, nor do they seem to have given him the serious scar he had in the animated series (see fig a-z). Well, maybe the tweenies will like him. I suppose I'm too old to be complaining about the attractiveness of teenaged characers. It was considerably less of a guilty pleasure when he was a drawing voiced by a man older than me. Anyway, the movie seems to be deviating seriously from the plot of the series, and fans of the latter have little good to say about the former. I must say, I can't get much excitement up about it. I'll probably still see it in theatres, an then the roasting will really begin.
