Also, I really didn't think this episode cut the usual mustard. It was a shame!
I have to admit that for the first 2 episodes I was like WTF black Gwen? But mostly I was like WTF Not Hot Enough Gwen rather than her skincolour, and certainly by episode 3 I didn't notice at all. Also for the first 2 or 3 episodes the thing that stood out the most was the side of Merlin's ears. So there you go!
It was kind of back to the old wacky-monster-of-the-week, which is a shame after all the plotty goodness that's been going on. Still, plenty of good subtext, and next week's looks good!
I was surprised by Gwen at first, but then I realised how cool it was and that there really is no reason for Fake Dark Ages Britain to be 100% white. And I think she's gorgeous.
I was actually super excited about a Monster Of The Week episode, but it fell short in my opinion. Which is sad. I didn't think there was enough, you know...*shrugs* next week looks awesome though. Fingers crossed!
The one where Uther marries a troll lady was on TV here this week, so I remembered exactly how low Merlin MOTWs can go. But you're right, it was pretty meh. I did love Arthur being all 'Shut up, Agravaine, I am going to do the sensible thing for once.'

Merlin's ears do rather overshadow everything.
