I'm doing some school work, and came accross the following passage during my reading.

The contribution of later twentieth century sociology post-modern theory was that society is characterized as an irreducible pluralism and diversity that is not ordered and integrated according to any discernible principle [11]. Post-modern society is not viewed as having any controlling and directing force to give it shape and meaning. “There is simply a more or less random, directionless flux across all sectors of society.” [11, p. 103]  Post-modern society is characterized as having a heightened degree of fragmentation, pluralism, individualism and decentralization-the reverse of modern society (when the emergency manager is viewed as a central figure). Changes in work organization (including shifts from the modern pyramidal bureaucracy to a nexus of parallel realms of influence) and technology (currently computer, internet driven) are viewed as driving forces resulting in the circumventing of national cultures for social life at a global level. Nation state institutions and practices are weakened; identity (and reality) is fed by multiple sources becoming fluid and shifting.
