Hey kids
Still sick. Taking a break from cleaning to watch some TV. Man vs Wild is on. I've gotten into a few debates about this show lately.
Here's the question: Bear Gryllis (Man vs Wild) or Les Stroud (Survivorman)?
Bear is an Englishman. He's younger, a ripe 33 years. Former British Special Ops (SAS) for 3 years until a parachuting accident in Africa; his chute ripped, and he broke 3 vertebrae on impact. He's very creative when it comes to mobility: climbing trees, descending on vines, etc. And, he tends to subject himself to some pretty good punishment. It seems like every episode he's jumping into an icy river and almost going into hypothermia. He can also "hold my breath for only a couple of minutes". Only?
One the bad side, he uses a camera crew. There's always at least somebody with him should something go down.
Les is a Canook. He's a bit older (45). He started out as a musician and songwriter, and occasionally plays the harmonica on his show. Les gets more creative when starting fires; never seems to use the same technique twice. He's done it with a first aid kit, a potato chip, battery, soda can, and I think he once rubbed two tarantulas together.
Along with that, Les does all his own camera work. No camera crew. This also means that he has to lug 50 pounds of camera equipment with him wherever he goes. That's pretty badass.
On the down side, he actually scouts the location first. He gets to know the area, talks to locals, and sets up a gameplan on how he's going to do for the week.
So, who's better?
My opinion:
Les.
I'm a Les man.
Get used to it.
What do you guys think? Who's your preference?
Always
