Dear Yulegoat Letter 2009

Dear Yulegoat! :D

So, yay for you! You got assigned to me. Um. I'm sorry? :D I'm pretty eclectic (and catholic) in my fic-tastes, so, really, I can almost guarantee that I'll love anything you write. That said, I'm not terribly fond of m-preg or genderswap, although otherwise I'm ridiculously hard to squick. (... That's comment, not challenge. Please don't take that as a challenge.)

My requests are... pretty much "exactly what it says on the tin", but I'll go over them again anyway, because, woo, squee. :D

Diane Duane - Young Wizards series // Carmela Rodriguez, Christopher "Kit" Rodriguez, and Ronan Nolan

I'd love to see something shippy for Kit and Ronan, with Carmela involved somehow (in a non-shippy way!). Errantry-fic would be awesome, or something involving Kit and Ronan working together. Post-W@W preferred, if possible. Also, if you can't do the shippy there, I'd prefer not to see Ronan or Kit explicitly with any girls, but the rest still stands! In terms of Ronan and Kit working together, and Carmela along for the ride. :D

I love Young Wizards, and I have for years. I love pretty much everything about it, from the world-building to the relationships to the Speech to wizardry itself. I'm really fond of exploring wizardry, and how it changes -- how the manual adapts to different cultures, or how spells change to match or exceed technology.

If you're not familiar with Young Wizards, I wouldn't recommend taking this one on as a fandom to learn for Yuletide; it is a (currently) eight novel series, after all -- but they ARE YA novels, and are fairly quick reads, and they really are kind of fantastically awesome, and I do recommend reading the series, even if not for Yuletide. They're not hard to find -- most libraries would stock them, I imagine, and they're all (so far as I know) currently in print. The first book is So You Want To Be A Wizard and it's sometimes collected with the second and third as Support Your Local Wizard. It is, hands down, the best YA fantasy series I have ever read. ... Yes, I mark it higher than Earthsea.

You Oughta Know (song) // Any

I'd love to see this treated from the POV of a male singer, with something involving the boyfriend leaving him for a woman. Is the ex bi? Did he dive further into the closet? Alternately, if you're not comfortable with one of those versions (and do check my LJ for my forthcoming Dear Yulegoat letter), something involving female vocalist finding out, or the lead-in to the break-up.

I... don't have a lot to say about this, I suppose. :D Other than that I love this song. Um. Male vocalist versions! Those might come in handy. ;) There are two I'm really familiar with; the first is by The Killing Moon, and the second is by Jonathan Coulton. [Both links to Youtube] The Killing Moon version might fit the tone I'm imagining better, but I'd be happy with any kind of take on it, really!

And, if you'd rather female-vocalist, my two favorite Alanis versions are here and here. Although the original is always awesome, too.

Seriously, if you're writing this, just pick a version and go with it. ;)

Shelter // Shaun and Zach

Ideally, I'd like to see a what-if -- what if Zach's mother hadn't died? How would his life have been different? Would he and Shaun still end up together? (I hope so!) If that's too large a scope for you for Yuletide (which I totally understand!), something post-movie would be awesome as well, especially incorporating Gabe into the Zach/Shaun/Cody family unit. (How does Cody relate to his 'uncle', maybe?)

Shelter is a fandom I got into thanks to last year's Yuletide -- I was hanging out in #yuletide and it got pimped, and, dude, I fell in love. It's one of my go-to movies when I need a smile on my face.

What draws me most to this fandom is that while both Shaun and Zach are very much gay, this doesn't define them entirely, and while both are very much into artistic pursuits, they're also both athletes with their surfing. In short, they're well-rounded, realistic characters.

And they're hot, without being Hollywood hot, which makes them seem not only realistic, but real.

I don't think I could pick out any one aspect of the movie, really, that's my favorite -- I love basically everything about it. And I totally understand if the first part of the details is too big a scope -- I just figured it, y'know, never hurts to ask. ;)

Being Human (tv) // Annie Sawyer, George Sands, and John Mitchell

I love me my OT3! -- and I mean that either platonically or romantically. That said, I'd not much into Annie/Mitchell, so if you're not into the OT3, I'd prefer not to see the two of them paired together. Anyway! I do love all three characters, and the way the interact, so basically what I'm hoping for here is OT3 house-interaction, either shippy or gen. Either mid- or post-series is fine! Although if you go post-series, I'd definitely like to see Nina in it, too, if you can. :D (It could be interesting to see how she integrates into a shippily-OT3 household!)

Um. Yeah, pretty much that. :D Feel completely free to ignore the details on this -- optional details are optional, after all! -- and just do /something/ with the three of them. ... As a note, I do definitely prefer series!Mitchell and Annie to pilot!Mitchell and Annie.

But they're cool, too. :D

ALL THAT SAID.

Seriously, I'm good with het, slash, femslash, etc., except where otherwise specifically noted (those are specific cases, not any kind of general distate).

And. Um. Yay Yuletide? :D
