Ack! I'm definitely sorry it made you uncomfortable; I do hope you understand that it wasn't intentional by any means. (... To do that to anyone, I mean. I doubt you thought I'd done it to make you uncomfortable, specifically.) I mean, I'm gay myself, and while it's been a few years since I've been in Chad's situation (... because at twenty-five, I'm so far removed from high school, clearly), I do remember how much comments like that can hurt.
(Hah, I wish I'd been in Chad's situation; alas, I was never so lucky as to date a guy so hot as Ryan. Or to be the star of any athletics teams!)
That said, I don't know that I agree that adding it to the warning section is the best way to respond to the issue. Warning for triggery issues is one thing -- things like rape, abuse, or gay-bashing -- but for a couple of relatively minor incidents, I'm worried that mentioning it in the warnings field would make potential readers think that that's what the story is about.
That said! I'm thinking, instead, of adding a small comment to the author's note: "There are a couple of minor incidents of homophobia, but nothing I wouldn't expect from, say, an episode of Glee." Do you think that would address the problem? (... I also rerated it a little higher, because in hindsight PG/PG-13 was a little too mild. I hate rating things; I'm absolutely horrible at it.)
Don't worry, of course I (or anyone else would) understand that it wasn't intentional.
(To be honest, I'd rather be in Ryan's position-- finding out that the person who is more or less perfect for you swings your way? If only.)
...seeing as I've never seen Glee, I can't be positive? Just, while I sorta agree that nothing major enough happens for it to be a warning, there should be some sort of heads up. For me, it's mostly due to the fact that is fandom tends to gloss over any sort of homophobia (which is part of its appeal imho) so to be brought back to that is jarring.
Though as for rating, I don't see anything wrong with PG-13.
Woo, okay. I mean, I didn't expect it, but I've had a couple of encounters in other fandoms... Chad/Ryan peeps are awesome, though, I mean, I don't think we've had any actual wank over in our sandbox, have we? ... *knocks on wood*
(Hah. I certainly didn't mean to imply that I'd object to being in Ryan's relative position!)
Hrm. I hadn't thought about that with the fandom, but now that you point it out, yeah, we do generally kinda gloss it over, don't we? I'll add a comment to the author's note now.
