The door of the comic store closed, and Ace closed his eyes as he let out a deep breath. Biting his lip, he spun to face Ryder who was seated on the counter, eyebrows raised and hands in his lap. The look on his face made it clear that he understood he'd done something wrong, but he gave the smallest of smirks, as if thinking that would make everything better.

Ace cleared his throat, and reached up to take his glasses off. He rubbed his brow with one hand, while choosing his words carefully. "Ryder," he started slowly, "What's wrong with you?"

The younger man shrugged his shoulders, but lowered his gaze, saying nothing. Ace replaced his thick-framed specs and neared him.

"Do you always have to be mean to the customers?" He asked.

"I ain't mean to customers." Ryder said.

"What do you call it?" Ace asked, rounding the counter to stand behind it.

As if not trusting the older man behind his back, Ryder hopped down and turned to him, arms crossing over his chest.

"If they didn't come in here actin' all...superior, maybe I'd be a little nicer." Ryder said with a huff.

Ace leaned forward against the counter, and studied Ryder. "Superior?" He echoed. "How do they act superior?"

Ryder's tan eyes rolled, as if the answer was obvious. "They come in here, thinkin' me and you are nothin' but a couple of losers because we're workin' here." He said.

"They're the ones shopping here, and yet they think we're losers?" Ace asked with a cocked eyebrow. "Ryder, I hate to say it, but I think you're wrong there."

Ryder fell silent for a moment before he shrugged again, arms falling to his sides. "I don't know." He said. "They just always seem to have an attitude...it pisses me off."

"Well I'm sure your ignorance towards them doesn't help any." Ace said. His brows furrowed. "What's that saying? 'You attract more bees with honey...rather than..." He trailed off, one of his hands rolling in the air in front of him, as if that would make him remember. "Or was it more flies?"

Ryder grinned. "I attracted you real good -- without any honey at all." He said.

Ace rolled his eyes, and sat down in the chair behind the counter. "What am I going to do with you?" He asked.

"I can think of plenty of things." Ryder said, wiggling his eyebrows at the older man. "But you might want to lock up the store first."

"Christ, why do I keep you here?" Ace asked, though he was smirking.

"Because you love me too much to fire me." Ryder answered with a shrug of his shoulders.

Ace shook his head, but noticed a couple of younger guys nearing the door of the shop. His brown eyes darted back to Ryder, who raised his eyebrows.

"Honey." Ace said. "As in, be fuckin' nice to these kids or you'll regret it."

"Alright, alright." Ryder said, holding his hands up defensively as the door opened, the bell above it tinkling. "I'll try."

Ace shook his head, standing up again. "What am I going to do with you?"
