So he had somehow convinced Iori to come over for a visit. The boy always did seem a little melancholy around him so he figured it would do him some good. Besides he was bored anyways. It seemed that his life had become so consumed by work that he didn't even know what to do when not at work. Glancing around the empty apartment he sighed, turning on some music. It wasn't rock. He hadn't been able to listen to rock for quite some time. So instead he listened to a quieter music, waiting for Iori to show up.
Iori still couldn't believe he had agreed to come over to Tai's. It was late, and he hadn't spent much time around or with the older digidestined for quite some time. But here he was, at Tai's door; he might as well knock.
He rapped at the door, waiting for the other to open it.
Standing up Tai sighed, opening the door as he glanced over towards the other, nodding briefly. "Hey Iori, I was starting to think you wouldn't show." Moving out of the way he let the other in but only once he had switched to his indoor shoes.
"Guess you're not as scary as you think," he replied, mouth quirked in a small smile. He glanced around the apartment in curiosity. "So, this is your place, huh? It's nice."
"Yeah," he said, stepping out of the way. "I hope you didn't believe everyone when they kept saying that without Koushiro around I wouldn't keep it clean." Seeing the smile he flashed a grin. "So you can smile. Want something to drink, I have tea."
"Well, clearly, they were lying. You keep a nice apartment." He chuckled at the other's comment, "See, I told you I could. Ah, tea would be okay."
Taichi nodded in response, heading into the kitchen to heat up some water for tea before coming back out, flipping off the music. "Hey, I didn't drive you off Sunday night, did I?"
Iori frowned in confusion. "Drive me off? No, of course not. Why do you ask?" While Tai had been rather drunk the other night, Iori had found it mostly amusing.
"As embarrassed as I am to admit it, I don't even remember everything I did." Leaning against the wall his foot caught on a soccer ball, kicking it up into his hands. "Hey Iori, what do you do for fun?"
"Me," he asked, the question seeming a bit out of the blue. "I have kendo and running club. I hang out with school friends and Noriko when I have the time. It's really not much. You?"
Tai flashed a grin at that. "How about we cut a deal. You learn soccer I'll go running with you or whatever you want. My team is getting on my case for 'getting out of shape'. I can't have a bunch of high schoolers showing me up, can I?"
Iori blinked blankly. "You want me to play soccer? Um... I guess I could." He laughed, a bit awkward with the situation. "Okay," he conceded, "I'll do it. But you'll have to get up pretty early to run with me."
Tai flashed another grin at that, catching the soccer ball and tossed it over to Iori. "So when do you want to start? We could walk to the park, unless you think a cutey like you would be molested."
Iori fumbled the ball, surprised by the move, but managed to hold onto it. "What," he asked, startled, "right now? And 'cutey'?" He arched an eyebrow, amused. "Thanks, I guess."
"Okay, how about tomorrow? I'll come running with you first thing in the morning. I don't have work until the evening since there's no school on Saturdays,"
"Okay, sure." Iori said, smiling. He held up the ball, motioning that he was about to toss it. He gently threw it across the room to Tai.
Tai caught it, spinning it in his hands for a moment before dropping it to the ground, letting it bounce before stopping it with his foot, knocking it against the giant turtle that served as his 'table'.
Iori jokingly applauded, "Impressive." He finally walked over to a chair and sat down. "So...?"
"Well it is pretty late," he said, glancing at the clock. "We can head down to the park today or do this tomorrow," stepping over he placed a hand on Iori's shoulder.
Iori eyed the hand sideways, unsure about the contact. He supposed it was just Tai being Tai. "Tomorrow's fine. I was just wondering why you asked me over and not just ask me over livejounal."
"I still had to make sure you knew how to smile," he said, flashing his own grin as a cat rubbed against his legs.
"Oh, okay." Iori chuckled, amused by the other's antics. He leaned over when he heard a purring sound. "Oh, I didn't know you had a cat."
"Yeah, for quite a while. I found her on the street," kneeling down he picked her up. "Iori meet Tribble."
"Tribble, huh?" He reached out to stroke the cat's head. He smiled as it purred. "I see you got a good one."
Hearing the whistle of the tea kettle Tai placed the cat down before hurrying off and getting the tea ready. Coming back in, he handed one to Iori before sitting on the couch.
"Ah, thanks." He took the cup that was handed to him. He idly sipped at it, sitting in silence. He didn't know what to talk about now, but it didn't feel awkward. It was actually nice.
Tai didn't mind the silence too much either, glad to have company there. It had been quite a while since he had lived with anyone, since Koushiro left, actually. Despite the fact that he took care of himself he was missing the company. And it was probably better that he didn't remember the party too well despite a note scrawled on the back of his hand to 'visit Takeru'.
Glancing up the brown eyes lingered on Iori. "Hey, when you head back you want me to walk you back to the station. This isn't the best neighborhood."
Iori looked up from his tea. "Sure, that'd be fine. If you don't mind, that is. I wouldn't want to make you go out of your way for me."
"I don't mind at all. It's not like I'm really doing anything," he glanced back at Iori, flashing a grin. He would ask Takeru about the note on his hand later on. He had the feeling that it was important.
"Okay," he easily agreed. They returned to sipping tea in silence; he was a bit sad when the tea ran out. Setting the cup down, he said apologetically, "Well, if you're ready, I should probably head out. Isaribi probably won't go to bed until I get home."
"Sure," he said, grabbing the keys off of the table as he walked next to Iori, completely unaware of what it may look like to any wandering eyes. He was just walking a friend to the station, but to those who knew he was gay it might look like he was walking a date home.
Rumors, anyone? >3
